It's great to live in a world where we're so willing to help our fellow man who is less privileged. :rolleyes

I do think it should be a voluntary tax, though - kind of like when you buy the food coupon in the check out line to help the hungry.

I'm perplexed as to why they are targeting airlines. I don't want some arbitrary international body taxing me either way. I'm all for helping out poor countries, but this seems like a stupid "look at me and what I'm doing because it's noble" load of crap.

I can understand the airline industry being targetted more than other ones - especially considering that many people who use air travel have more money to give to causes like this - but I see the airlines' purpose of connecting countries as more of the culprit. I do think it's odd that it's ONLY the airline industry though.

Here's my thing...

The airline industry is struggling since 9/11. Why mess with it?

Not to mention the can of worms they're opening up with this. What's next? Oil? Rail? Automobile tax? World cell phone tax?

Very dangerous path they're taking us down.
