Mar del Plata is an Argentine city located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, 400 km (249 mi) south of Buenos Aires. Mar del Plata is the second largest city of Buenos Aires Province. The name "Mar del Plata" had apparently the sense of "sea of the Río de la Plata region" or "adjoining sea to the Río de la Plata".[1] Mar del Plata is one of the major fishing ports and the biggest seaside beach resort in Argentina. With a population of 614,350 as per the 2010 census [INDEC], it is the 7th largest city in Argentina.

As part of the Argentine recreational coast, tourism is Mar del Plata's main economic activity with seven million tourists visiting the city in 2006. Mar del Plata has a sophisticated tourist infrastructure with countless hotels, restaurants, casinos, theatres and other tourist attractions. Mar del Plata is also an important sports centre with a multi-purpose Olympic style stadium (first used for the 1978 World Cup and later upgraded for the 1995 Pan American Games), 5 golf courses and many other facilities.

Mar del Plata continues to lead Argentina's room availability: of 440,000 registered hotel rooms nationwide in early 2009, the city was home to nearly 56,000 (5,000 more than Buenos Aires). Mar del Plata is the most popular destination for conventions in Argentina after Buenos Aires. Mar del Plata has a wide range of services in this sector. The summer season hosts over fifty theatrical plays.

The weather pattern for the region is that of an oceanic climate, with humid and moderate summers and relatively cool winters, although polar air masses from Antarctica are frequent. The average temperatures for January reach 20°C (68 Fahrenheit) and 8°C for July (46 Fahrenheit). The West-Southwest winds bring down the temperature below 0°C (32 Fahrenheit), while the Southeast ones (the so called Sudestada) are stronger, producing coastal showers and rough seas, as well as strong squalls, but the cold is much less intense.

I've been in Mar Del Plata ! It's a really nice place.

Argentina will dominate this tournament. Hopefully Brazil get the Olympic spot this time. It's too bad Nene, Varejao and Barbosa are not playing, but i trust the team and especially Magnano.

It has been a long time since the last time Brazil went to the Olympics.

Pretty good game Brazil vs. Venezuela. Splitter leading scorer/rebound/blocks for Brazil. Looked much better after his injury. LOL!!! Free throw form doesn't look too consistent though.

vazquez the rookie from the memphis single handily kept venezuela in the lead/game for the biggest part of the match. He's very good, also too tall and too strong for brazilians PGs.

Splitter led Brazil with 17 points and I still want to kill the spurs coach that convinced him to change his shooting motion in the FT line.

Fuck. I still remember me celebrating when I forgot his name, the pg Starter at Memphis got in foul trouble like 3 minutes into the first quarter in the last game and therefore memphis would be forced to play its rookie pg for extended minutes in the decisive match..

and we were winning playing very good IIRC.

then the motherf. changed the game haha. Vazquez looks like we'll be a good player. and he's screaming at the veterans during the timeouts, he's a leader and he's not shy.

Glad to hear Splitter is OK and playing well. Despite some of the sentiments around here about him, Splitter got dealt a tough hand last season and never got a chance to really excel in the Spurs system. This next season should be a much better indicator of what we can expect from the big man....if he can stay healthy through camp, anyways.

As for the Free Throw woes, I'm sure Brazilians aren't going to appreciate him clanking all these now, but imo this is necessary to his development. His jump shot looked pretty busted before, and playing in the Spurs system, it would be extremely beneficial if he could develop a short-to-midrange jumper into his arsenal. That starts with correcting shot mechanics, and that all starts at the free-throw line.

When players look to fix their shot, the first thing they usually have to do is deconstruct and unlearn all their bad habits. This takes a while to do, and the results usually aren't pretty at first. Personally, I'm glad to hear Splitter is sticking to his new technique and not reverting to his old form, despite the benefits not being there yet, because they should appear down the road.

His free throw shot isn't nearly as flat. It looks to be a timing thing. His release point was what looke to be inconsistent to me.

Arg is just not defending, not playing as hard as it can. No challenge on the other side, no injury risking.
