France 89 - 78 Latvia

And what a game from Parker... 31 points, 7 assists and 8 provoked fouls + great leadership.

Complicated game nevertheless. This Janis Blums was ON FIRE beyond the arc

I only watched the end of the game but Parker was great. Bertans looked very promising too.

Just finished watching the game. Bertans looked solid. DeColo was pretty bad. That block by Bertans was pretty nice. I thought he was going to get posterized.

Francia defeated Israel 85-68 in his second game, Tony scored 21 points (7-11 from the field) and dished out 8 assists to lead the team in 33 minutes.

Another very good game from Parker indeed. The guy is clearly on a mission right now

Very promising game for Noah. Good connexion with Diaw and Parker

Main issue: our bench is garbage

Next: Dirk's Germany

Sérieux, t'es lourd mec, j'aime bien ton humour 45em degré, mais tu pourrais lui rendre hommage de temps à autres..

TP really has been a joy to watch these last 2 games!

As Romain said, you can see he's on a mission, I've rarely seen him with such leadership and we (spurs fans) should apreciate the fact that he's getting better in some areas (jump shots, defense, leadership).
This is good news for the future (If we ever see another NBA game...)

Half time in Lithuania

France 29-28 Germany

Ugly game so far with a low shooting % for both teams and a very good defensive effort for France.

In the second half, we need more rebounds from Noah.

As for Parker, he is having a monster game.

Good win for France

Great defense from the ''blue collar'' players

One concern though: w/o Parker or Diaw on the court, France don't know what to do with the ball

I swear I've never seen him like that! wow...

As the french commentators reminded us, at 29, he's at his peak in terms of maturity, confidence and (once again) I've never seen him with such leadership.

Tony was so dominant - it was wonderful to watch. BTW the german commentators only blamed the refs for the loss. I can't here the "Dirk never get calls" any more...

I'm not sure about Refs being pro-French...
But i've found the German coaching really weird. Dirk was benched for really long stretches (esp. during the french run in the 3rd quarter). Same for Kaman

3 reasons for French win:
1/ Parker stellar game
2/ Great defense on Dirk (F. Pietrus, Noah and Diaw)
3/ Batum and Gelabale good shooting

The Refs were ok. Many no-calls on both sides of the court.
Bauermann is a bad coach in some situations. I don't know what he tried. Perhaps he gave up very early or he tried to take them out early and bring them back when Parker has to sit down to start a run.

French commentators insisted on Germany not wasn't lucky in this game by missing a lot of wide open jump-shots.

I like German NT. They have a great coach with some good players around Dirk and Kaman like Benzing and Schaffartzik. The only thing I don't get is why Ohlbrecht get so much minutes. He was horrible against Italia and invisible tonight. Pleiss or Jagla should get his minutes.

What sucks for France and Germany is how horrible is this Eurobasket draw. Group A and B are so much stronger than group C and D. It's unreal.

I can remember 1 call Dirk should have had...

Honestly, that's it.

Florent Pietrus (Mike brother) really annoyed him the whole game, but tell me why did your coach played Dirk so few minutes in the 3rd quarter, when France built its lead?

Anyway, as TP has learned these last summers, euro refs rarely call as much as nba ones on all-stars, the defense is allowed to "touch" more than in the nba...

Nobody knows why Ohlbrecht gets so many minutes. Bauermann was his coach in Bamberg and he likes him very much. But I agree - he didn't help his team. Pleiss is a little bit overhyped. He is a very raw player and needs to improve in so many aspects of the game. Some think he is the next german star just because he was drafted.
These days it's more fun to watch the gerrman team because it's a young and talented team and not just one superstar with 4 players around him.

Sometimes the commentators are bad losers and can't accept when you lose to a better team. I said it before - the refs were okay. The germans had no answers for Parker and a coach with a doubtful decision in the 3rd. But that's basketball.

I like refs that don't call every touch. It makes the game more interesting when you're allowed to play hard defense.

So now you simply have to watch it if you want to see Tony dominate a game... he did it all: penetration, jump shots, 3 pointers, free throws, assists, low TOs, low fouls, defense, rebounds, steals, whatever.

The coaching on the German side was indeed weird. The French commentators pointed out missed open 3s by the German sharpshooters as one of the main reasons for the loss. Of course as France was at +21 at some point it didn't seem to make such a difference, but basketball is a streaky game, and a few 3s made on the German side could have made a lot of difference at some point. It was still weird to see Dirk sitting so much, especially since I think Germany also has a day off tomorrow.

The "Gelabatum" pair was great, they showed their versatility, from knocking down 3s to dunking to scoring in transition. A really meaningful contribution from them on the offensive side, which of course helped Tony by keeping the defense honest. On the other hand there were also countless times when Tony would have got hockey-style assists, such as the nice pass to Diaw in the post who just handed it to Noah for the dunk. And of course Noah and especially Pietrus on Dirk were great. It's nice to see France play some D at this level.

Re: the refs they weren't too nice with Germany at times (I think a couple of times they let them play, which lead to a missed basket, when a foul could easily have been whistled against France). On the other hand I think Germany still got more FTs, and Dirk got a couple of shadow fouls too. It's never perfect, but I think it averaged out and wasn't the reason why Germany lost.

Gelabatum, Noah, Pietrus or Diaw are indeed solid contributors but it's still too much of a one man show to me...
if they want to go all the way and beat teams like Spain, Serbia or Lithuania, they can't rely that much on Parker as they did in these first 3 games. When TP is out, France is really garbage (esp. on offense). Tonight again, the 20ish points lead was cut to 10ish during the few minutes Parker was out. Against the very best teams, it will be deadfull.
de Collo NEEDS to pick up his game and be a real back up PG when Parker is out.

Fixed it!

Call it both ways, not just one way... Noah always with both arms against Kaman/Dirk and never got it called and much much more not called. Was just a hilarious bad job by the refs "against" Germany!

Still, France was the better team.
