What a great card. Seriously, awesome. I'm going to pick my first five officially, but want to chime in on a few others... As if you give a shit.
Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson - I love Edgar, but Henderson is no bitch like Maynard. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Benderson Era.
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson - Bader needs this to get back into title picture while Rampage will do his normal routine: Be fat. Be lazy. Lose.
Cheick Kongo vs. Mark Hunt - I love Mark Hunt, but his last fight was sad to watch. He's more than just a few steps slower than he used to be. Kongo is going to decimate his face.
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields - This might be the first time I've ever picked Shields to win a fight. I wouldn't stuff Sexyama up my ass if I had room for a mighty Elm. What a waste of a fighter.
Joe Lauzon vs. Anthony Pettis - I love you, Joe, but you're about to get raped.
PRELIMINARY CARD
Tim Boetsch vs. Yushin Okami - How funny that a so-called #1 contender a few months ago is all of a sudden barely making the preliminary card. I'm going to really enjoy watching Sonnen butt fuck Silva.
Takanori Gomi vs. George Sotiropoulos - Great fight! I'm taking Sotiropoulus by armbar.
Hatsu Hioki and Bart Palaszewski - This will be Bart's 50th fight or something like that -- I love him, he's a fucking banger.
Leonard Garcia vs. Tiequan Zhang - War Garcia!

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)
Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson (for lightweight title)
- Both of these guys just don't know how to quit, Edgar's resume obviously includes the 2 Maynard fights and Benson has the ability to withstand any submission attempt and lets not forget he survived the "showtime" kick (yes he got knocked down but recovered). Going to be a great fight, give the edge to Benson in this one.
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
- Perfect fight for Rampage, opponent (Bader) really one dimensional, never uses kicks (has wrestling but Rampage is decent in TD defense). Just haven't seen anything from Bader that impresses me, Rampage by decision.
Cheick Kongo vs. Mark Hunt
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields
Not a big fan of either but lets see if Akiyama can handle the move down to welterweight, will the extra weight cut help or hurt him...
Tim Boetsch vs. Yushin Okami
- The Barbarian has impressed me in his 2 wins at Middleweight, I look for that streak to continue against Okami; hopefully he has another "gif" worthy hip throw.
Hatsu Hioki and Bart Palaszewski
Joe Lauzon vs. Anthony Pettis
- Now that Pettis has worked on his wrestling + unorthodox striking / underrated ground game, should be a fun scrap. Pettis takes this one.

Bader is one of the least talented guys to win TUF. He has no dominant skill anywhere. Page can eat doritos for 8 weeks and still win a UD on this guy..

- I admire Frankie, think he's a great Champion - but Ben can grab a hold of him and tag him.
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

Okami is one of the biggest, most experienced, and strongest MWs, I can't think of a single thing Tim can do to frustrate him. He's not Chael or Silva, and he's in enemy territory. If it were a title fight or #1 contender fight, I'd pick against Okami cuz he chokes haha.
Lauzon is one of the most game LWs out there, no idea how he can be seen as an underdog. J-Lau isn't afraid of takedowns, so Pettis needs to keep this standing if he wants a chance at a decision. Sure, Pettis has speed and more strikes - but J-Lau is patient and can hold his own even where Pettis is his best.

I don't understand why people keep writing Okami off. He's only had three losses since 2007 - to Anderson Silva, Chael Sonnen and Rich Franklin. He is definitely not a walk-through.
I'm slowly coming around to your way of thinking on Lauzon as well. At first glance it's a bad fight for him, but the more thinking one does about it the more things don't look so certain in Pettis' favor.

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)
Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson (for lightweight title)
If this fight lives up to the way they match up it should be a classic. Both these guys are in their primes, have cardio for days, are fast, well rounded and have lots of heart. Edgar always fights like he has a chip on his shoulder and Bendo is also fighting to prove he is the best and much better than what he was in WEC, and he was great in WEC. I think Bendo can take the UD here as long as he stays in Frankies face and doesn't allow him to stick and move all night. Bendo needs to use everything in his arsenal, wrestling, JJ, striking, pressure to win. I think he does..
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Bader is mediocre. This is a match-up heaven for Rampage. Walk him down, let your hands go and it's goinna be an easy night... HOWL!!!
Cheick Kongo vs. Mark Hunt

Jesus Christ...
During his interview with Fuel's Ariel Helwani, Jackson said he suffered an injury early in training camp and couldn't get in his roadwork. The injury, which Jackson would not disclose, was healed later in camp, but by then he was still very heavy. Jackson said he woke up at 3 a.m. locally to cut weight and he was only able to go from 232 down to 211.

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view)
Champ Frankie Edgar vs. Ben Henderson (for lightweight title)
Ben is almost as big as Gray but he is more explosive and faster. It looks like Frankie when getting caught will be finished. And also you cannot see the area where Frankie can have advantage.
Anyway IMO FE will find a way. taking Benson down and being bit faster, something like Cruz Faber matchup.
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Jeez Rampage. Having MP on his side I thought he will have none of the preparing problems. Bader is a bigger dude and he is ready. Rampage is motivated tough, so I think he can outpower Rayan.
Cheick Kongo vs. Mark Hunt
The way Kongo fights he can get KO. But IMO Cheick will stay technical and earn UD.
Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields
Akiyama get another tough opponent and he looked bit exhausted on the weight-ins..
Tim Boetsch vs. Yushin Okami
Okami is back
Hatsu Hioki and Bart Palaszewski

Edgar pissed me off when he refused to hit gloves with Benson at the start of the first round. I know it's a little thing, but I felt he was trying to send a message that (as a points fighter) he obvi wasn't going to cash, especially against a guy like Benson. Hate when guys say that their corner tells them they are up on points, always glad to see those dudes lose.
Also, this was the most random event for predictions - need moar Japan events! :P

Very tough fight to score. 3-2 Benson.
It's very close. Winner of this round takes it tbh.
WOW!! I watched this on the PPV and let me tell you the damage Bendo did was huge. I had 5-0 at least 4-1. Fight metric should have Bendo owning this shit come tomorrow. He punished Edgar tonight..

:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol:lol
Edgar has too many yes men around him.. That was a clinic from Bendo.. Masterful performance..
5-0 on my card..
Wouldn't say it was a clinic...but the UD for Henderson was definitely the right decision. Edgar battled his ass off.

Other than a few TD's that Bendo was conceding to land the harder shots i don't know what Frankie did. He got punished all night to the body and busted his face all up.. He also had 2 or 3 nice sub attempts..

I think the overall striking was fairly even...but the damage edge was what won it for Benson. At some point Edgar has to try to finish instead of thinking he's got the decision. Goes back to the old Dana quote.

You get dropped with a punch it's not a clinic(thought it was a slip at first but watching the replay he definitely dropped him).
Edgar landed shots but it was more about scoring and not power. That was the difference in the fight. Again...it was a worthy UD for Henderson but it wasn't as one sided as you seem to be making it.

Octagon control
Damage
Effective striking

Edgar's camp is probably going to moan and groan for sure...but it's their own fault that they fight to try to win decisions. Edgar's fatal flaw is that is style is based on moving away and not real aggression. Against a fighter like Henderson that style is just not going to cut it because as we all saw, he's is going to inflict big damage when he lands shots. At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you landed more punches if the other guy brutalized you with the shots he landed.

Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson - Bader needs this to get back into title picture while Rampage will do his normal routine: Be fat. Be lazy. Lose.
Bader is one of the least talented guys to win TUF. He has no dominant skill anywhere. Page can eat doritos for 8 weeks and still win a UD on this guy..
Sounds like a sig bet is in order. Shall we do another 30 days?
Bring it on....
Don't underestimate going back to Japan for Rampage. He asked to be on this card and wants to put on a show for the fans he used to fight in front of all those years in Pride..
Ryan Bader vs. Quinton "Rampage" Jackson
Bader is mediocre. This is a match-up heaven for Rampage. Walk him down, let your hands go and it's goinna be an easy night... HOWL!!!
Oh fuck Rampage.. So much for taking this one serious.. I'm gonna stick with him though..
He said he had an injury and he's never missed weight in his whole career.. Sig bet on the fight is still on.. Not backing down..

I believe the word you're looking for is "obvious". Rampage only fights for the money, not to win. His last three fights should've been perfect examples for you.

Stringer_Bell
03-06-2012, 08:12 PM
I don't think Melendez is going to UFC until 2013, blame Showtime (the network, not Pettis haha).
Frankie was the only one asking for a rematch, not the fans, not the reporters, no one. Without a doubt, Dana made him promise to drop to 145 AND have to have a contender without an immediate shot at Aldo - if he loses this rematch.
Pettis vs Bendo makes more sense, since after Bendo beats Frankie...if Miller beats Diaz then that yet another rematch of a one-sided whooping. That's 2 rematches in a row for the title (4 in total w/ Frankie's rematches!), WTF ARE YOU THINKING UFC?! LW looks like a worse log jam than ever and this is not even a warranted rematch. >.<
