View Full Version : How many of the Laker titles were legit?

From the rigged Kings Game 6 in 2002 to yet another freethrow fest to give "6-24" a WWE title vs the Celtics (Gasol for Kwame the true MVP), makes one ask: just how many of the Laker titles have not been rigged? Any?

2002 was rigged, can't deny that much. Nothing really wrong with 2010 though, Kobe just drew a lot of contact and the C's had 2 games to finish it.

How about none were rigged, for any team. The NBA isn't championship wrestling.

Where was TD when Kobe was going 6-24? I mean, we know he wasn't participating in the Finals. Maybe he was courtside? No? Well, was he at your crib watching the Finals? No? Well, was he getting another back tat? Maybe he went out and got another non-manly body part pierced?

So many questions... :downspin:

If it was rigged, it was rigged for both sides to extend the series to 7

You can't really take away a ring. A win is a win, even if it involved a shortened season or well you know (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7LT_C7o5ZGM). History remembers the number, not the event.

Game 6 had 27 in 1 quarter. 27/12 = 2.25 FTApm which about a FT every other possession. The game was notorious for phantom calls and ignored offensive fouls committed by the Lakers. There is a lot of video evidence of the offensive fouls if you want to see, but I'm sure you seen the game.

I'm an LAL fan through and through, but nothing was normal about that game.

and on the inbound play, where kobe hit bibby in the face, before that bibby was holding kobe, he was grabbing him and kobe was trying to get away
so that was not a missed call, it was a foul on bibby

This will happen when you force feed the low post versus crappy low post defenders. I also recall Peja bricking some 3ptrs. They had their chance and they choked.

As far as those two bad calls - I call it home cooking. Every team gets it. Lakers just took advantage and seized the moment. The rest (NBA Finals) was history. :toast

There were 27 free throws in 1 quarter, more than the Kings in the entire game. :wakeup

If it was a normal game, then Kobe should have gotten a flagrant and Shaq fouled out. It doesn't matter if he grabbed him, there should have been SOME sort of call.

The ref knew what he was seeing

There is a point where being a fan of the game will conflict with being a fan of a team. If you don't accept game 6 for what it is, you aren't a fan of the game. I'm happy LAL won, it was exciting seeing AI n Kobe dueling it out in the finals. This series had a lot of hard fought games, but it wasn't a good series if you are a fan of the game.

Why did the LAL bias announcers pick up on the bad officiating in the 4th? They would be the last people to admit anything was going on.

The crowd didn't react to fouls like they usually did either. We all knew something wasn't right.

Playoffs often have bad reffed games but announcers and the crowd lets it go more often than not. It's not normal for them to criticize the game for an entire quarter and the crowd suddenly losing energy when pivotal fouls were called.

Meh, never said Kings didn't get a little home cooking too. If both teams win rigged games, it doesn't mean the winner had a fair win. You're basically agreeing with me that the series was rigged.

well, if it was rigged, the allegation was to extend the series to 7, not to make one team win a series
wasnt that the allegation?

Up 3-2 and the refs rigged the game for the Lakers. It's really sad that it took all that for Kobe to win with the best player in the game(maybe second best). Sad is a understatement it's flat out pathetic. I guess that's just Mr. 6-24.

BIGGEST CONTROVERSY: The Lakers' 106-102 victory against the Kings in Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference finals
The Lakers had a 40-25 edge in free-throw attempts, including a 27-9 advantage in the fourth quarter alone. "Obviously, [the Lakers] got the game called the way they wanted to get it called,'' Kings coach Rick Adelman said after the game. Convicted referee Tim Donaghy would allege that two of the referees conspired to influence a Lakers victory in order to produce a Game 7, a charge vehemently denied by commissioner David Stern.

If you rig a game to extend a series, you rig it so a team doesn't win a game. Some games were legit, by NBA standards, but it wasn't a true 7-game series. Kings had a chance to finish at 6, but it wasn't to be.

I'm not saying LAL wouldn't win if it was an even game, start to finish. I'm saying they won a rigged series and it wasn't earned(nets were just a give win for either). If Kings won, might as well say the same, although probably to a less degree due to the nature of game 6. It's an asterisk and we can't say whether or not LAL would have won.

It doesn't have much to do with Kobe besides the inbound foul. The whole team had the officiating treatment. I think you focus on Kobe too much.
