View Full Version : Biggest Duncan Era Disappointment?

Russo21

I've narrowed mine down to

2000: Duncan goes down with a knee injury and San Antonio can no longer seriously defend their championship, wasting a year of prime twin tower basketball.

2004: The notorious 0.4

2006: Losing an epic series to Dallas with the infamous game 7.

2008: Perhaps the last year of "best player in the NBA Timmy" we blew a 20 point lead against the Lakers in game 1 of the WCF and proceeded to lose 4-1, if we didn't blow game 1 who knows ?

They are my 4 biggest dissapointments. Extremely hard to choose which is number 1. Despite having a wicked regular season in 2011 i never really thought we had the personel to win the title so i don't even class 2011 in my top 4.

Your thoughts?

SO yeah, fucking 2006

2006 easily. Preventable and a guaranteed 3 peat assuming we win in 2007, but the Spurs would have assraped the Heat, no doubt. 2004 Pistons I'm not so sure about

Assumptions & ifs. Christ, just do it. Kobe did it. He 3 peated. He went back-2-back 3 times. Fuck. It ain't that hard.

Shaq 3 peated. Not Kobe. And David Stern earned the most recent back to back. So, really, Kobe hasn't doen anything. He's just an insignificant turd riding in a sidecar.

huh? spurs were fighting from the a hole from the getgo. we were down 1-3. it would have been an epic feat to come out of that and we almost did.

I'm talking specifically about the last minute of Game 7, which is what the OP listed. One whole season, and a great chance of back-to-back rings, blown on one stupid foul.

It's not at all like 2000 or 2004, when players couldn't control injuries or miracles.

I don't regret anything about 2004

Sure we had a 2-0 lead, but then KFC figured out Parker and there was nothing we could do at that point

But 2006 still stings to this day...

I second this.

As a sports fan there are always disappointments, but the Tim Duncan Era has been the greatest time ever fan of this team.

In 2004 I think we lose to the Pistons. 2006 definitely sux the most. I still don't know what Manu was thinking.

People forget that in 2006 the Spurs barely won game 1 when Stackhouse missed a shot at the buzzer then got blown out in game 2. Spurs had to struggle just to make it to game 7 and were getting beaten badly in game 7 till they made that comeback and took the lead with Manu's 3. The Mavs had all the momentum in that series.

It still hurts that Manu tried blocking Dirk when he really didn't have to. If he wasn't able to make the block he should have just fouled him hard. Then on the last possession he forget to look for an open Horry. That could have been another big shot Rob moment.

It must really bug you humps to see Kobe on top of the shit bag 5-4. A nice egg like Duncan shouldn't be holding the dirty end of that stick, but, he is.

Easily 2006. Up 3 with 22 seconds to go. Manu with a brain**** - he does some crazy things. Spurs would have beaten Suns and Heat - Bowen to guard Wade. TD, Rasho and Nazr to guard Shaq.

2006, by far. That year was the last the team was legitimately championship caliber. That year, I could see the team beating anyone in a game 7 series. Dallas just got the best of the rivalry that year. 2007 championship was a joke as it was played against Cleveland.

Not resigning S-Jax in '03. We do that and Spurs win in '04 and '06. Essentially we 5-peat. No Manu foul or .4. He didn't want much either. Holt was notoriously cheap at the time though.

mingus
09-10-2011, 12:10 AM
That's what sucks about Duncan Era. It was great with 4 'chips and all but nobodies stop us from winning 6-7 'chips total if we sign S-Jax. And more if we signed Scola. Those should've been instant signings. And would've been had someone like Buss been running the show.

So you and the other LA fan in here still did not find anything better to do all summer long and are still here posting about the Spurs on que? :lmao:lmao Nothing has changed in here.

BTW 06 easily, no doubt at all.

I've been pretty content with how the Spurs have done since Tim arrived. I accept that they are not a world shaker powerhouse 8peat team. It comes with being a fan of a small market franchise. What other small market team has fared as well as SA?

Sorry, there's no disappointment, just good basketball and a few parades along the way. The Spurs/Suns playoff games are, imo, the greatest playoffs that ever occurred in the NBA.

Why would I be disappointed that we didn't win the ring every single year?
