I give a shit about this movie, but I've never even opened the MMA forum and you couldn't pay me to actually watch a match. Hardy is easily the most exciting actor to have shown up in the last ten years and I'd get excited (not just that way) to watch him read the phone book.

So if a fighter submits his last three opponents, it's a smart idea to go to the ground with him instead trying to keep on one's feet?

Walked out of The Fighter thinking Hardy should have been cast in Wahlberg's role. Gonna go check this out.

I just liked the WWE-esque moves the fighters used in this movie. There were a couple of back suplexes and even a Rock Bottom, I think.

First, fucking failed as an MMA movie. This was like watching a basketball movie where you know they're shooting it on a 8 1/2 rim because of the ridiculous shit everyone is pulling. I found the concept of 4 fights in 2 nights laughable as hell.

I had to get that all off of my chest because (and I'm the guy always saying you have to suspend disbelief when watching a movie - giant robots smoke monsters etc etc) it bothered me throughout the movie.

Now, that being said, what a fucking fantastic movie. Even in the places where you know whats going to happen I found myself at times on the edge of my seat and practically holding my breath. Nolte was amazing, and Hardy was amazing. Edgerton was good too but honestly his role was much easier. Hardy looked fucking nasty in this movie and he should step right into the Bane role.

The ending was pretty damn gut wrenching. It really was a movie filled with a lot of cliches but somehow the execution overcomes that. Loved it.

Oh, one thing I really didn't that showed up all too often was how grainy the film was. I get the use of filters and leaving a coarse film grain to set the mood but I thought in certain scenes it was WAY too much and it was distracting for me. Don't think I've ever complained about that but the scene outside of the dad's home to start and the scene in the coffee shop were two places it was particularly bad.

I've intentionally stayed out of this thread since I'm pretty sure all of The Club is already aware of how I feel about Mr. Hardy (seriously, whenever he asked...), making my feelings about this film pretty easy to predict. Writing is bad. Directing is mediocre. Every single sport/fighting/family drama/veteran drama/financial crisis cliche is on display from beginning to end. You see the end coming from a million miles away, and don't even really give a fuck how it plays out by the time it finally arrives. I could point out tons more bad points than good ones. And on and on.

Yet, Hardy and Nolte make it worth watching.

With lowered expectations.

Old quote, I know, but Pride and K1 would have guys fight 2-3 times a night for the tournament. Thats why it was such a big deal to win those early tournaments. You had to not only win, but win quickly to stand any chance at all of lasting into later rounds.

Went back and watched this tonight (actually still watching) because of Bane.

Yup. I agree (with everyone that has said so in other threads - not with myself from that quote - lol) that Bane was menacing, but THIS Hardy role is really fucking menacing to me. Way moreso than Bane. IMO anyway.

Didn't even notice too much grain this time around. The first time I watched it on an older TV so maybe that had something to do with it but I watched both on Bluray so who knows. Maybe I was just on crack.
