View Full Version : Texas vs. UCLA

McCoy is to start, with Ash at #2 and Gilbert at #3 QB spots

If Malcolm gets more carries (at least 20), and the combo of McCoy/Ash doesn’t turn the ball over and manages the game decently to give the defense good rest, this should be a win.

stretch

also should be another good test for the run defense, to see if Dorsey and co. is for real. again, the key will be the offense having some sustained drives to keep the defense well rested. UCLA seems to still be a damn good running team. if they can contain the run against them, I think Texas might have the best front 7 in the Big 12, and gives us an awful lot to be excited for in the coming 2 years.

Texas needs to get rid of all the blonde haired "aw shucks" white boy QB's and just find another black to lead them.

I do like David Ash a lot. He could be a lot like Tebow, without all the knobslobbing of his christian activities by the media. Great runner, big, strong, and solid accuracy. Team seems to like him a lot too.

I can't remember the last black quarterback they recruited. Russell Shepard? And they recruited him at wide receiver with a "promise to compete" for quarterback. I'm probably way off on that.

Wasn't Chiles a QB before he moved to receiver?

Also, if Texas' defense plays like they did against BYU, UT will easily win this one. UCLA's offense is way worse than BYU's.

ucla has a better offense than byu, its the defense that is worse. either way, its on the road for a young t.u. squad against a desperate team.

no matter who wins, it should be close. if t.u. loses, their season could spiral down, which would be fairly entertaining... again.

defense is fine. generally went vanilla after the big lead, allowed a few points by UCLA, started dialing blitzes right back up and UCLA couldnt do jack shit

the offense is night/day with anyone other than GG in at QB. McCoy is perfect for the offense actually, letting the RBs pound the shit out of the defense, then the occasional playaction that simply requires an accurate mid-range throw. and doing a great job of protecting the ball.

its getting really scary to think how sick the offense/run game is going to be next year with malcom being a year older, and getting Jonathan fucking Gray in there, with Cody to pound the short yardage. not to mention Harsin's offense finally being fully sunk in. it will be nearly impossible for any QB in the nation to find a way to fuck up in such an offense.

Fozzy Whittaker is going to be hell to pay out of that wildcat formation. He has such an amazing burst once he beats the first level, and we never got to see that with him as an every-down back.

Harsin is all about playing everyone that can play, but putting them in situations where they can play well. We're seeing what Fozzy shoulda been in the last 3 years (given good health). Defenses can't do shit when Monroe is in motion and the snap is directly to Fozzy. They can't do shit. They can do NOTHING

UT's secondary is the most underrated in the conference, maybe even the nation. Kenny Vacarro is the human steroid, and Byndum+Philips have pure CB instincts and good hands.

Manny Diaz is all about risk. He doesn't hesitate to put everyone but 1 or 2 safeties right on the line of scrimmage at ANY given 3rd down. I had no idea what package we were rolling out on some defensive plays cuz everyone was just right on the line staring their man right in the eye.
We saw what his defense can do when given a point cushion early in the game. In the words of Emil from Robocop, "I LIKE IT!"
pT04RqXrBKY

Harsin is so fucking good that theres no way he stays here that long. There's just no fucking way. I still need to see his offense against the big boys, but that didn't seem to stop Boise in preceding seasons from scoring in big games.
