I was curious as to whether or not anyone on here has ever sold any gold jewelry to any of the places that buy it-- not the ones where you mail it somewhere, but here in San Antonio. If so, where did you find that was reputable?

Most pawn shops will buy the gold.

My parents sold some gold to this guy on Huebner and Babcock by the new HEB. They said he was a cool dude.

How funny-- that is the place I was looking at today. I have a gold bracelet I never liked and never wore that was a gift from my ex's mom. It has been sitting in my jewelry box for at least a decade, and I thought I might as well get some cash for it. It was really expensive, so I wondered about the places that specifically buy gold.

i sold a gold bracelet today to some jewelry place in huebner oaks. they had an ad in the paper and gave me more than they would have otherwise.

it made me happy, especially since that thing was laying around in a junk drawer for 15 years.

I sold some broken shit at this gold place at the mall (Ingram), forgot what it was called but I'm sure you can look it up. Got 260 bucks for a pile of crap and they do all the tests in front of you, seems legit :tu

Never sold gold, but I agree. A local shop you can see in person will probably pay as good or better a deal, and you don't have to fight with someone long distance of you disagree with what they give you.

If it was more than 1/2 oz. you got ripped, even when gold was $!000. It's now $1800. Figure out your gold's purity, 14k = 58% 24K = 100%, then weigh it and figure out how much actual gold is in it. Don't ever take less than half of the market price. That makes you money and leaves them a profit.

X2

Shop around and you can get as high as 80%. IMHO gold hasn't come even close to peaking yet. I'm expecting $2500 within a year.

Yeah, it wasn't.

Yeah, it wasn't.

Well, you described it as a "pile of crap", so that implied some volume to me. Glad you did OK.

I dumped a shitload at 1700.00.

I am waiting for it to drop so I can buy again.

I bought at $900, dumped at $1100, bought back again at $1000, and bought some more at $1500. I believe CC is right in that it's going up higher before it comes down, but I ( and some analysts) see the next peak at $2300, meaning I'll dump at $2200, maybe $2250. It's always good to leave a little on the table, rather than waiting for the expected peak, and it falls short, then riding a sharp drop down further than if you had left it a bit short.

I haven't played this run up but still have about a half pound physical in gold coins that I bought at $370. Also bought some proof palladium Russian ballerina's that have done well...in at $200 and worth $1000+ now.

I definitely recommend the Diamond and Jewelry Gallery in Huebner Oaks.

I did some research and went in a certain order on purpose.

The first place tried to tell me there were no markings on it- when I know right where they are- and basically offered me 50%. I told them I knew what is was worth and they had no interest in discussion. And this is a pretty well known place.

The next place offered about what I expected- right at about 2/3 of the market value of the gold in it. I told her I thought I would hold onto it a little longer as prices were going up, and she tried to scare me about prices dropping suddenly.

The final place-- mentioned above-- was the most upfront. They weighed it right in front of me- showed me what it weighed at (which matched my research) -- and read the markings but still tested it. He offered the same as the second place. When I told him I thought I would wait a little longer because I was hoping to get a little more for it, he asked me what I wanted. I told him the dollar amount that I has determined, and he said fine and paid me for it.

For those who care about numbers- the bracelet is a little over 11 grams. I have a small wrist and it was shortened. Calculating for the amount of gold in 14K, coverting to ounces, and multiplying by the price per ounce comes out to about $375-380. I got $300 cash for it so I was happy because that is right at 80%. The first place offered me $200.

I have sold about 150 grams of 18/22k gold at IDF on 5800 Broadway and they gave me the most money per gram in the last two weeks . Great lady runs the store . I first priced gold out of online guy in Florida and she gave me a small amout over their price ....so you need to price it online first and then go to her shop but i would trust her even by just walking in and makeing a deal
Wish youy luck

I take a profit and move on. I can often do more with the money than the percentage increase in the gold price even if it's moving upward at a decent clip.

For what it's worth, Royalty Coins downtown offered at or near market value for my krugerrand. So if you were ever looking to sell coins, I'd go there. As for jewelry and the like, definitely do your research and know what you are selling and how much it's really worth. Shop around. One place offered me less than half value (forgot the name though).
