An Edmonton woman has launched a $100,000 lawsuit after alleging she "suffered depression for approximately 10 minutes" when her chewing gum stuck to her dentures.

According to a statement of claim filed in Edmonton's Court of Queen's Bench on Sept. 14, Elsie C. Pawlow is suing Kraft Canada Inc., which is the parent company of Cadbury Adams, the creator of Stride gum.

In the statement of claim, Pawlow - a feisty city senior who says she is "49 and still holding" :lmao- alleges she bought at least five packages of Stride gum.

"Over a period of five minutes the gum falls apart into little pieces and sticks to the dentures," Pawlow said in her statement of claim.

She then alleges in the statement of claim, filed at a cost of $200, that she had to "dig out" the pieces of chewing gum from her dentures, which she described as a "disgusting" procedure.

"As a result, the plaintiff has suffered depression for approximately 10 minutes," Pawlow said in the claim.

Pawlow is seeking $100,000 in general damages as well as interest and court costs.

A statement of defence has not yet been filed.

Statements of claim and statements of defence contain allegations which have not been proven in court.

Stride gum is advertised as the "ridiculously long-lasting gum" in a series of funny TV commercials in which a team of Stride marketers target people still chewing their gum and try to force it out of their mouths in bizarre ways.

In one commercial, featured on YouTube, a man is chewing Stride gum as he walks across the street while on his cellphone dealing with an automated operator.

As the frustrated man tries to get a real person on the line, a ram runs up and slams into his midsection, forcing him to spit out his gum.

Two Stride employees then grab the gum and jump into a tire-squealing Stride van.

A message is then flashed on the screen reading: "Spit out your Stride gum and chew another piece, already! Or we'll find you."
