honest question
why are Texas a&m fans excited about this? how much more money will a&m be getting from the SEC than the B12? is it worth going 6-6 every year?

A&M payout from Big 12 for 09/10: $9.4m, expected for 10/11: $11.2m, expected for 11/12: $15.7m...SEC payout last year? $18.3m

It will be the same ($18.3mm) for this next year, then renegotiated when the 14th team is added, whenever that is.

Won't it be less since another school (A&M) is being added to the sharing mix?

It will be increased enough to match this season's payout. So, no.

Then, once there's a 14th, it will increase.

Most think there will be a recruiting advantage from being the only team from the state in the SEC; the fact that Texas is a recruiting hotbed will help us with our pitch of playing in the best conference in the nation while staying in-state.

Those who bash the move suggest we'll be Arkansas 2.0; we think the more accurate analogy is Florida (only SEC school in a talent-laden state). Florida wasn't exactly a powerhouse before they joined either; additionally, the fact that we've sucked in football for the last decade is largely the result of the Franchione fiasco and its aftermath. It wouldn't be accurate to project based on his record.

And even though we think there will be more money long term, that's not what really excites the fans. We're excited about playing Alabama, Florida, Auburn, etc. while Oklahoma is playing Iowa State, Baylor, and Kansas.

A&M fans ... sons you are now included in the best conference in college football. be proud and also be prepared to constantly get hated on for being in such an elite conference. no more cake walk / pansy ass schedules where at best you may play 2 or 3 legit teams all season. that shit is gone now. its time to play some real football. welcome

where is the extra money coming from? The 12 SEC schools are splitting a pot from the TV contract so to add a 13th team and keep all payouts the same there has to be additional money coming in, otherwise all the payouts would have to decrease to keep an equal split happening. Does their TV contract go up if a team is added?

I would add Starkville, Oxford, Columbia, as locations I would probably not travel to, to watch a football game.

Great move for A&M, but lets not make it look like every Saturday will be played at Tiger Stadium.

It is just a guess but I would imagine that they get to renegotiate the contract when they add additional teams.

Gators have been in SEC since 1932 and didn't win much there until Spurrier. He made them into a powerhouse.

As I already said, the payout will be increased for next season to match the current seasons payout. When a 14th is added, the payout for each school will increase.

Detractors saying that teams would not make more or even make less are either crazy or stupid. The presidents of other schools wouldn't vote us in to make less money.

It should also be pretty obvious that TV contracts between networks and conferences are going to have provisions that allow for renegotiation and/or termination if the conference makeup changes. Fox obviously has protections in their conference with the Big12 that prevents them from having to fork over a billion dollars to the likes of Baylor, Iowa State and the other forgotten members had Texas, OU, OkSt and Tech gone for the Pac. Likewise, the Pac certainly has protections in their TV contracts that prevents their network carriers from says "glad you added Texas and company, but a deal's a deal".

Obviously the SEC believes that adding A&M and whomever their #14 team is will allow them to negotiate a bigger TV package at some point in the near future. Otherwise, they wouldn't have given A&M the invite.

Better chance at losing to Tech on the road then Baylor at home IMO. Either way I see us winning both of those games.

I put us at 10-2 before the season and can still see that result if we can get past the piggies this weekend, which I think we will.

Agree that the game in Norman will be a very tough out.

Oh, I fully believe they will be abel to renegotiate that contract and that provisions do exist, but wasn't sure if the guarantee revenue A&M is counting on is contingent on the contract being renegotiated or if there was a clause that automatically kicks in. Just checking to see if that was known.

I almost fear for Aggie's safety during their stay in Lubbock.

COLLEGE STATION — The first time I met Mike McKinney, he had blood on his face following a melee in the stands of Texas Tech’s Jones Stadium.

That fall 2001 day in Lubbock, McKinney dropped a couple of memorable lines:

“Welcome to Lubbock, Coach,” directed at Texas A&M football’s R.C. Slocum, and, “It was like the Alamo. They were coming up over the walls,” in describing Red Raiders fans shoving the goal post into the A&M fan section that day.

McKinney, father of A&M football and NFL players Steve and Seth McKinney, was then Gov. Rick Perry’s chief of staff, and the star of a huge and memorable brawl.

No doubt that Aggies' asses will be pounded much harder when they go to the SEC.

It's been a consistent theme though for Aggie to act like Iowa St and Baylor are the Big 12 norms for conference games, while schools like Vandy and Kentucky will never be on the schedule.

Elbamba, if you factor in basketball to raise Kansas, you also have to raise Kentucky. That also makes a stronger case for A&M to be higher, as they've been to the NCAA tournament 6 straight times, and have a good team returning this year (and some talented commits coming in the next couple of years).

mizzou is better than tenn or ga

I was going off a combination of present level and past success to (very roughly) project future levels of competition. I think Tennessee has 13 SEC championships (though they're a little down right now) and Georgia has 12 (including 2 fairly recently, and they finished 2nd in 2007).

Mizzou right now might be better, but long-term I think Tennessee and Georgia will be better. I'm well aware people will disagree with a school's placement here or there, but overall most will easily concede the SEC is much more top-heavy than the Big 12; hence, more exciting seasons.

Nah I have to work. We have 6 starters that will be out for the game as it stands right now.

Tyler Wilson called a team meeting tonight, it had nothing to do with the coaches either. Sounds like they are coming together at the right time.

BP said there's going to be "a lot of changes" vs TAMU. Which means some players have lost their starting job.

It's also hilarious when guys like you strenuously insist on and obsess about disgusting myths like the 'jizz jar' and 'circle jerking' ('I saw it on a Texas fan forum, it must be true!'). The fact that you invariably return to and obsess about these perverse, disgusting myths says more about you than it does about the people you're trying to deride.

Since you're 'Still learning me' :lmao you should now be self-aware enough to realize you seem to have some fascination with 'circle jerking' and 'jizz jars.'
