View Full Version : What makes you feel old?

TE

Here are mine:

Thinking about my old high school years.

Certain music... I go back and listen to music that was pretty appealing to me at the time only to eventually feel old that it came out years ago. :lol

Making conversations with women only to find out they are 2-4 years younger than me (coming out of high school or college).

Paying bills.

Can't think of any else at the moment, but trust me, a lot more should be mentioned here.

Muscles ache for no reason. Hangovers last the whole day.

There's nothing wrong with talking to younger girls, being a man allows you this perk.

When I hear folks say that Taco Cabana has good bean and cheese tacos (or at least better than Las Palapas), but they don't remember the early 90s when TC actually had good bean and cheese tacos. wha da fuck mane and/or womane?

Are you complaining about this? Having kids, esp in your early 20's, is almost as bad as a death sentence.

Not being excited about my birthday (28th), and being unable to think of anything to request for a gift. Not that I'm one of those people that throws a fit about my birthday; we're all getting older every day. I just find myself feeling more and more indifferent about it each year.

It never fails for me: Remembering what places USED to be. For example when there USED to be a Builder's Square by what USED to be Crossroads (I still call it that because the other name is fucking stupid). Remembering when there used to be a JC Penny by that big shopping center they closed off Fredericksburg Rd. When that's gone I'll be able to reminisce about when it used to be a Flea Market, etc. Right now it's just empty buildings.

Some others: Montgomery Wards, KMart (Still in business but not here) Woolworths, Puff N' Billies (spelling?), etc.

Which is fucking bullshit, and now they've changed their format and are playing RHCP and other 90s bullshit. :wow I don't understand why they only play Nothing Else Matters and One and shit from when they were badass like Call of Ktulu or Ride the Lightning. Guess it's the softness of it though

Probably the single biggest thing is my lack of memory. It's not what it used to be.

Watching my nephew run around and wondering where the hell he gets the energy. I remember the days when I had boundless energy, too. I used to wonder why grown-ups were so lazy, and would run any errand anybody asked of me simply because I had the energy to do so. Now, I don't hardly want to get up from the couch to get myself a drink or make dinner some days.

Walking past the candy counter at the store, looking it up and down....and finding nothing of interest.

After an extended break, I went back to college at 29 to finish my undergrad education and am currently halfway through a grad program at 33 years old. Because of that, my social circle for the last four years has been primarily made up of people between six and twelve years younger than me. The huge differences in points of reference -- finding out they barely remember things that were big when I was in high school, for instance -- make me feel old pretty often. But it's not necessarily a bad old. I'm pretty secure in who I am and where I'm at in life, and I'm never made to feel like the weird old lady hanging out with the kids, so I kind of don't give a damn.

I will admit to have gotten momentarily freaked out a couple months ago when I realized this summer would have been my 15th high school reunion, though. Oddly enough, I wasn't bothered by the fact it's been 15 years since I graduated, but I did feel old when I did the math and realized that means it's been almost an even 20 years since I started my freshman year.
