i suppose the pitching rotation will be

Wilson
Holland
Lewis
Harrison

Tampa has nice pitching, but I just don't think their hitting can keep up. and since the all-star break, their pitching hasn't really been much better than the Rangers, while the Rangers hitting has been considerably superior to the Rays.

I'm confident in this series.

ive been bored and comparing last years rangers to this years rangers...

I had forgotten exactly how much better this years lineup actually is than last years. basically replaced:

Guerrero
Molina
Francoeur
Treanor

with

Beltre
Napoli
Torrealba
Chavez

not to mention the squad having some playoff experience under their belt, both great success and great failure. I can't see Hambone doing as poorly as he did last year, hitting like .190 for the entire playoffs.

lineup IMO is about the same. I think CJ is a legit shutdown guy, and should be able to give the Rangers what Lee gave them last year. CJ = Lee, Harrison = CJ, Holland > Hunter, Colby = Colby.

and the bullpen is 100000000x better, as the bullpen fucked up 2 games in the WS in epic fashion.

Rays probably going with Moore because Niemann lasted 1 2/3 innings in his last outing and hasn't been healthy the last couple weeks. It says a lot about how confident the staff is in Moore, who only has one career start in the Majors. During that start though, he racked up 11 Ks in just five innings of work and flashed command of all three of his plus-plus pitches (fastball, curveball, change-up). He's the top pitching prospect in the game and a future ace of the Rays rotation.

I guess we'll see if the future is now.

Phillies in a tough 6 games. The Rangers wouldn't be a walk in the park like Tampa would be.

Phillies in a tough 6 games. The Rangers wouldn't be a walk in the park like Tampa would be.

Fair enough. Coming into the playoffs, I am confident the Rangers could beat anyone. Don't mistake that for predicting it though. If we played the Phillies in the WS, I wouldn't predict the Rangers to win. I'd have to go with Philly.

What I am about to say means nothing at all. But what I do like is how the Rangers have a history against Halladay, Lee, and Oswalt. Hamels has only pitched one game vs Texas and got roughed up. As for the other three: Halladay of course used to be in the AL. Same with Lee. And Oswalt faced the Rangers every year while he was with Houston. And the Rangers have hit them all well over their careers.

Oswalt: 4.28 ERA, .291 opp avg
Lee: 4.91 ERA, .269 opp avg
Halladay: 5.17 ERA, .285 opp avg

Again, all this means nothing. Those three pitched against Texas this season and all did very well. Different Rangers lineup in years past; different matchups; completely different situations. But what I'm getting at is simply the fact that the Rangers have experience against the Phillies rotation. As opposed to last year against the Giants. The Rangers had no idea what they were getting into. Lincecum, Cain, Sanchez, and Bumgarner have all spent their entire careers with the Giants. No AL experience at all.

I think it's still who the better pitchers are. Cliff Lee had been sucking ass (by his standards at least) heading into last year's playoffs. But he was really good in Game 1 of the ALDS; even better in Game 5; and flat out nasty in Game 3 of the ALCS. He did get roughed up some in the first WS game. But overall, he was terrific.

I also think the Cards will get swept.

interesting stat I heard the other day

this season, when Hamilton, Beltre, and Cruz have been in the starting lineup, the Rangers are like 45-10 or something in that range. pretty damn good, considering how a number of these games had them still getting back in a groove after injury (well, not Beltre, he hit the ground running)

i wonder if Wash starts Chavez over Murph tonight, as Murph is not good against lefties, while Chavez has dominated lefties this year. I bet Moreland sits as well, with Torrealba in.

True. I think Shields and Hellickson are pretty solid locks to pitch effectively with their command and swing-and-miss off speed stuff. Oddly enough, the Rangers probably have the best shot to get to the guy with the best pure stuff in Price. They usually mash lefties and fastball-heavy pitchers. Add that Price is hit or miss with his command and you've got a recipe for success.

Of course, with Shields set for a possible Game 5, they'll need to find success against more than just Price.

Wondering how you Rangers liked the game on the line - tying run on and Joe Maddon sends up Kelly Shoppach (.176) to the plate?

MultiSciosa?

(I know Shoppach was 3-5 in gm 1 but cmon, that was pretty much zero pressure at bats, esp the final ones.)

Would be good to know what led up to that. In the 7th inning, Maddon had Rodriguez pinch hit for Jaso, the starting catcher. Shoppach was the defensive replacement after the pinch hitter. The Rays do have a 3rd catcher on the roster, Jose Lobaton, but he has next to zero experience and he's a .118 BA hitter. They could have pinch hit Eliot Johnson and do another defensive replacement with the 3rd catcher. But Johnson himself is hitting .194. Not a lot of options for Maddon.

Maddon tried to squeeze out another run in the 7th inning with the top of the order coming in the 8th. Once he made those moves, he was pretty much stuck with Shoppach in the 9th if it got back to that part of the order.

Ya, the Rays are pretty thin with bats coming off the bench and Maddon really did about all he could. Unfortunatly, this is one of those area's where a low budgeted team gets hurt the most, depth....

If the Rangers play the Tigers (I'm not jumping ahead, I know this series ain't over yet)... but if it's the Tigers, I would seriously consider making Ogando the fourth starter and not have Colby Lewis on the roster at all considering the 2 starts each Ogando and Lewis had against the Tigers. I don't know what Washington said about Ogando and whether he's staying in the pen the entire playoffs, but if you guys don't remember, you should revisit the 4 games where Ogando and Lewis pitched against the Tigers. Ogando owned them. Lewis got trucked.

Colby did suck against the Tigers this year. But the entire team sucks against the Tigers for some reason. Considering how Colby has done the last two postseasons, there is no way he can not start. If it's the Tigers, he will absolutely start Game 3 in Detroit. He has been much better on the road than home. He needs to be avoided at home at all costs.

Not Ogando. And not Michael Young. But I hear what you guys are saying.

Again, no way am I thinking the Tigers already won. Tonight's game is far from a guarantee, and the Tigers are in trouble if they have to go back to New York for game 5.
