I agree that it's impossible to replace Carell. But I think the writing is pretty strong. At least better than any other network sitcom. Although, it's probably going to get goofier and goofier and more slapstick.
In any event, Thor sucked.

and that's the problem. Still a solid show no doubt, but Carell wouldn't even say anything and it was funny, Ed Helms just isn't that guy. He's really not that funny in anything he does (except when he was the pissed off Ivy League prick in the first few episodes he did)

The show was dying last year and was rarely funny then, but these first two episodes this season have been pretty solid. The Will Ferrell idea was particularly awful; it would have killed the show had that been anything long-term.

I think the whole Jim and Pam thing is played out. I wouldn't mind seeing both of them gone. It worked great while there was some tension but now, there isn't much point. If they're going to do this new parent thing, why make crappy Up All Night also?

Are you guys serious about The Office still being hilarious? Since Steve Carell left, this show has gone down hill so fast. NBC should have cancelled it last season in my opinion. This show just isn't that funny anymore. There are some funny moments but it's just not the same. Michael Scott made The Office funny. With that character gone, it's hard to make up for that loss. And I definitely agree about the Jim and Pam thing being played out. Jim is a douchebag and Pam comes off as an uppity bitch. They act like they are king and queen of the office. The only character that has stayed the same on The Office is probably Creed.

Completely agree. I was almost dreading the season premiere, and was very pleasantly surprised.
I'm getting a little nervous, though, as to what they're planning to do w/ Andy's character. He's obviously always been a fucking goober -- ridiculously awkward and whatnot -- but the things they have him doing seem entirely TOO Michael-like. The whole Indian-style on Jim's desk thing? Tha fuck? Way too fucking forced. Way too fucking Michael.

Carell was great because of what he DIDN'T do. His facial expressions and reactions to the stupid situations he'd put himself in were completely awkwardly realistic. Andy was a great extra character, like Ryan and Kevin and Stanley, but he can't just pop in to the spotlight with the same character and he sure as fuck can't convert to Carell's awesomeness

every character obviously has some lols but not enough characters who consistently bring the lols. andy unfortunately brings very few lols to the table and the show is becoming very centric on his character.

I agree with this. I think the problem is that they don't have anyone that can take on big minutes. They've got a great quirky cast that they write great funny short scenes for. But they don't have anyone that can carry a full episode like Carell did. They've tried it with Andy and Darryl and both episodes failed.

agree completely on the too much Pam and Jim thing. What's always great about The Office is the big number of characters all with their own schtick. NONE of them have really been utilized so far. It's like they're all there just to show Robert California attention while Dwight, Andy, Darrell, Jim, and Pam seem to have their own show

http://www.deadline.com/2012/01/the-office-spinoff-starring-rainn-wilson-nbc-2013-new-launch/
EXCLUSIVE: Dwight Schrute may finally be off to greener pastures… literally. I hear that NBC is working on an Office spinoff starring Rainn Wilson for a potential midseason 2013 launch. No deals have been closed yet but I’ve learned that the proposed spinoff is a family comedy, which was the brainchild of Wilson and The Office executive producer/showrunner Paul Lieberstein. It will have Dwight (Wilson) living at the Schrute family beet farm and bed & breakfast, which have been featured on the show several times, including in an episode where Jim and Pam visited Dwight there. (photos below) The potential spinoff will be introduced in an Office episode later this season set at Schrute Farms. “Paul and Rainn have been joking for years about Dwight’s life on the farm, his family and how ill-suited he is to run a B&B,” a source close to The Office said. “A while ago, it started to feel like a show to them. NBC agreed, it’s been further developed to include multiple generations, many cousins and neighbors. (It is unclear if that would include cousin Mose who has been featured on the show.) At its base it will be about a family farm struggling to survive and a family trying to stay together.” Wilson and Lieberstein will executive produce the spinoff with The Office executive producers Ben Silverman, who has been working with Wilson and Lieberstein on the development of the project, and Howard Klein. Greg Daniels, who developed and executive produces The Office, is not involved in the offshoot. He has his hands full already with The Office, Parks & Recreations and his newly picked-up NBC comedy pilot Friday Night Dinner.
The Office NBCThis is NBC’s second stab at launching an Office spinoff. Under Silverman, the network seriously considered the idea during the 2007-08 season but the efforts were ultimately re-directed to the Amy Poehler-starring Parks & Recreation, which hails from The Office‘s Daniels and Michael Schur.
If NBC proceeds with the spinoff, that will not mean an immediate departure from The Office for Wilson. If the veteran comedy is renewed for a ninth season as many expect, Wilson will return in the fall before segueing to the new series in mideason. Deliberately or not, the writers on The Office have been planting the seeds for a potential Dwight departure from Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton office. Deeply convinced that he is the best salesman there, Dwight was crushed whenThe Office Spinoff 2013 it was Andy (Ed Helms) and not he getting the manager job vacated by Michael Scott (Steve Carell). Ever since Michael left, Dwight, now No. 2 to Andy, has been unhappy and looking to do something new. He recently flew to Tallahassee to interview with uber boss Robert California (James Spader) for a position there. The setup for the spinoff, with Dwight moving to a new family environment is reminiscent of the Cheers spinoff Frasier, which also featured a switch from a workplace to family format, moving Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) to a new locale.
Even with the promise of a potential new show, NBC is also serious about trying to extend the mothership series. I hear that The Office producer Universal Television has re-opened discussions with the other key Office cast members, approaching them over the past week or so with informal offers for next season. None of the core Office cast members, including Ed Helms, John Krasinksi and Mindy Kaling, have deals for next season, and while the studio can’t formally sign the actors before there is a renewal for the show, it is trying to shore them up in anticipation of a pickup. It may not be easy to get the whole gang back together. Helms has movie offers lined up, including a Hangover trequel. Krasinski had been hinting that this could be his final season on The Office as he too has been busy in features, including co-writing and starring with Matt Damon in a movie directed by Gus Van Sant, which will start shooting in April. And Kaling, who is also a writer/co-executive producer on The Office, has been actively developing her own shows and has a live-action and animated comedy in contention at NBC.
thoughts?
imo I can't see this spin-off being funny and if Dwight leaves then The Office is done, plain and simple. I've been super impressed with the show so far without Steve Carell but you can only cut so much off before it just sucks. He was always the #2 guy as far as comedic value when Carell was there and then after that everyone is pretty much even

Nellie and Robert suck bigtime. This season was pretty decent early-on (and much better than the abortion of last year), but started getting really shitty again once Nellie got introduced. It's fine to have an evil character if she's interesting; the way Jan just sucked Michael's soul away and made him miserable was hilarious. Nellie is just stupid and annoying, and Robert is an extension of another awful and boring character (Gabe).

The problem is that they were all great quirky small bit characters. But one SC left, they had to fill the void so they all got too much time. The biggest case in point is Andy. Whem he was limited to a few line a show, he was gold. But obviously he can't carry an episode. Much less the manager position. If you've been paying attention, they've all gotten shots at more time but no one has been able to pull it off. I think that's why they keep trying these off the wall chacters.

Agreed on Community. The last few episodes have been too gimmicky. Tbh, Alison Brie is enough to make me watch an episode. And I like Donald Glover's work. Still a good show. Hopefully it picks up again especially since it was on hiatus.
And Parks and Rec is amazing. Ron Swanson is one of the most badass characters of all time. It makes sense that the Office lost its funny when the writers moved to Parks and Rec.

Andy is definitely the most inconsistent character on The Office. He was a major douchebag in last night's episode. I liked the little moment that Dwight and Angela had. Those two deserve to be with each other.

Finally got around to watching season 8 and all I have to say is holy shit this show felt right on its face. Total train wreck.
I understand what you guys meant about Nellie. Horrible unlikeable character.

Yeah the show is a shell of its former self. Damn, I don't even know if you can say that because that would be giving the writers a compliment. I think the only reason why people are still watching because they want to see it end. It will be over soon. Some people say the writers' strike was the beginning of the end of this show. It got bad when they started adding way too many characters and making characters unlikeable(Nellie, Andy, and Ryan the temp).

I know this is my reason for sure.
Once I heard season 9 would be the last season I decided to pick up on this show again because I'm curious as to how it will all end.
But after re-watching the show from Netflix I'm afraid I already saw the real, true ending of the series.
Season 7, episode 22 (Goodbye, Michael)
Since that episode (which I may add got teary eyed as fuck watching) I have been fighting through the rest of the episodes for the sake of completion.

If Goodbye Michael had been the last episode, I would have been okay with it. The Office was not great in season 7 but it was nowhere bad as season 8 which was a train wreck or this season. The writers could have closed up the story in season 7 especially since Michael left. Steve Carell and Michael were smart to leave in season 7. They got off the Titanic right before it sank.

I know it was sarcasm, that's why I said that instead of "You really didn't know it was still on?"
and no, not really. The only enthusiasm I still have is from wondering what's going to happen to all the characters. So it is still fun to watch as things progress and wind down but there's usually no more than 2 times an episode where I full on laugh

Smart move, as the series finale will probably be every bit as bad the one for Seinfeld was.
Steve Carrell got intergrity. He exited with grace. NBC in the other hand had to milk the show and fuck it up.

Season 8 of The Office was on the same level as the 2nd half of the 2nd season of Heroes or possibly even worse than the Nikki and Paulo storyline on Lost. It was bad. This season hasn't been great but it's definitely an improvement from last season. We've seen less Andy and Nellie which is good. Robert California is gone as well as Kelly and Ryan the temp.

In the story, Andy was gone about 3 months which was probably 5 or 6 episodes I think.

I think Erin is an even bigger idiot than Michael ever was. At least he had bright spots, Erin on the other is an all around clueless retard.
Did anyone see the ad that was on Oscar's computer in tonight's episode? It was an ad for the documentary called The Office and it said "coming this May".
what about it? It makes me anticipate the finale more than ever now
I actually think that was a clever ad for the show itself.
Its like a new show being promoted for the world that the character live in.
Remember when Michael told the camera guy to let him know if 'this show' ever airs? Well I think that ad is referring to just that.

Did they used a different technique to deliver the jokes? No camera following the family and so on?
The farm was meant to be a different type of comedy show so this might be why one may think it sucks more than usually.

Sure it may only have 2-3 funny moments per episode but how can you completely lose interest in everyone's fate with only like 4 episodes left? If I had to wait an entire season I'd probably be saying that too but it's so close to being over.
and speaking of these past few episodes, I've never hated Pam more and hated Jim less than I do right now. Jim's MO the entire series, including before they started dating, was to kiss her ass and make her feel special and now she wants to keep him down while he's pursuing something great

Then I'd have Carell hook back up with Jan and have Holly and Angela clamsmacking in the final scene. The last two seasons were tarnished because of the Andy Bernard saga (imo). As much as I like that guy in everything, including when he first came on the Office, his character just got annoying and was a complete disaster in trying to take over for Michael Scott.

Jim and Pam's story went EXACTLY where I wanted it to go, having them stay there would've been awful. Liked Andy's ending, he was humbled but ended up being happy. I thought it was an excellent series finale, and possibly the best episode of the last 2 years. I was expecting complete failure like Seinfeld's finale, but this episode was very funny, and yeah, Carell's role was perfect. It would have been bad to make the final show about him, but it was perfect having Jim sneak him in as the best man at the end. Ryan and Kelly dumping that baby made me laugh like hell too. The part about Michael having so many kids he needed two phones (with two separate plans) for their pics was pretty good too. :lol

The last 2 seasons have been complete shit but I'm still pretty bummed out the show is done now. I always thought it should've ended soon after Michael proposed to Holly. Maybe a mini season after that to explain where everyone went in their lives.
When Jim started talking about not being able to be best man I gave my wife a head nod b/c I knew Michael was going to make an appearance. I thought it was awesome.
The whole Jim and Pam potential split storyline was unforgivable especially when Brian the camera guy suddenly becomes part of the show. Bygones are bygones though and I will miss watching the show I've seen every Thursday for 9 years.
Besides not feeling emotional what else was wrong it? What about how the ways they wrapped up the characters?
The way they wrapped up Erin, Nellie, and Creed.
Those were all lame. Erin's parents showing up and her accepting them on the go was really far fetch. Even if they were, the fatc they showed up after giving her up and showing up because her daughter got some tv exposure makes them fucking shallow as fuck. I would have told them to suck a black cock.
I feel the only reason Ryan was brought in was so he can come in with a random baby to give to the longing Nellie.
Creed got the Seinfeld treatment. lol
Did the guys called the cops on him? They just showed up and took him away. You would think he would get out of dodge.
The way they wrapped those characters up was too convinient and not belieable in the least.
I'm alright how they managed everyone else though. Even though I dont know what the writers were thinking making Pam and Jim fight and almost break up with a handfull of episodes left.
Goodbye Michael was the true ending for me. That shit had me in tears by the end. Legit.

Of course, Goodbye Michael was better than this episode but the series finale wasn't terrible. It was one of the best episodes of the last 2 seasons. Yes, the last 2 seasons were mostly pieces of shit but that doesn't erase the great seasons and episodes that this show had. I can't believe it's over. Thursday nights will be weird without The Office. Parks and Recreation is hilarious but it's not The Office. I think the way the show handled the Michael appearance was how they wanted it to be. They wanted him there for Dwight because Dwight was one of his kids and he was getting married. The writers and producers probably didn't want Michael's quiet return to be the spotlight of the finale. He barely had any lines and was mainly just there to support Dwight.

agree with everything except Creed. He had it coming. He's been a criminal since the beginning and we don't even know what all he's done off camera. I think convenience would've been having him pull a Hannibal Lecter from the end of Silence of the Lambs type of deal.
another minor complaint was the last line. I really didn't think Pam should've been the last person we hear. I was really hoping for Michael or Dwight, it didn't have to be funny just something simple and natural. Or even Creed giving a funny line, just because he's a fan favorite and it would've been whimsical
