So today my home pc was not showing the screen saver of photos it should so I rebooted it and now it will not start. I open it and the green led light on the back that power plug is connected is on and a small led in the inside of the pc on the mother board I guess is also on.

I left it unplug for a few hours and when I hit power nothing. I don't want to throw cash at it but I got stuff to trade if ya can fix it.

The pc is 4-5 year old dell quad core pc, was not a badass pc or anything but I rather try to fix this on a trade than spend cash on a new pc just to used as a photo frame screen saver/media server/magic jack phone pc.

The wife and I have laptops and Tabs and this kids have netbooks so the pc was always on but hardly used.

Get my pc working and I'll give ya all this that I have taking up space at my place. Thanks

Tempting but I'm not sure that stuff is worth the cost of a new power supply or new motherboard, which are the most likely culprits.

I say you burn that pic and put the video on youtube.

Could even be a dead LCD screen if the light on the pc is showing. Try hooking up the laptop to another screen to eliminate the possibility that the screen is dead.

Power supply likely.

On a laptop, the power supply is the actual brick on the cord. Maybe buy a new cord but still do the LCD test first.

Sounds like a desktop to me.

try resitting the ram individually and turn it on b4 adding the next ram stick

if that fails

then it must be the motherboard...

ps. when u turn on the comp, does the fans turn? if it turns then its not the PSU...must be motherboard...

When I turn it on the fans do not go on but a green led on the mother board does light up when its plug. Oh and its a PC not a laptop. Ill try the ram thing when I have a chance.

yeah sounds like a RAM issue. make sure you ground yourself before handling the RAM or you could damage it... if it's not already damaged.

I have some extra DDR2 sticks if it ends up being the RAM.

Does the computer beep when you turn it on? That would let you know that it's posting to BIOS.

Nope...its almost like the power button broke...I press it and nothing, so i took off the front plate and press the power again and nothing. When I plug it in the led light on the power supply lights up along with led on the motherboard. Both are green. Ill try the ram thing after work.

As guessed, it wound up being the psu. So much for that green led.
