...for all you anti-gun rights nuts.
A quarter century of civil rights progress: Spread of the right to carry (http://volokh.com/2011/10/07/a-quarter-century-of-civil-rights-progress-spread-of-the-right-to-carry/)
An excellent graph (http://onlygunsandmoney.blogspot.com/2011/10/every-picture-tells-story.html)at No Lawyers, Only Guns and Money, shows the story. We’ve come a long way, baby.
And there’s still a long way to go. In Illinois (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-west-side-south-side-north-side-shooting-gun-violence-chicago-crime-20111008,0,4264575.story), the right to carry is completely forbidden by law. In eight other states, handgun carry licensing laws are highly arbitrary. With a few exceptions (e.g., upstate New York, rural California, 2 of the 3 counties in Delaware), in those state rights are routinely denied, so “may issue” amounts to “will not issue.” It is not acceptable that nearly one-third of the nation is still denied a fundamental civil and natural right.

Meanwhile, in a state that still forbids a person to carry protection:
3 killed, 17 injured in overnight shootings (http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-west-side-south-side-north-side-shooting-gun-violence-chicago-crime-20111008,0,4264575.story)
Uh, that's in Chicago...Illinoois.
One day, those that would take guns away from law-abiding citizens will understand how essential they are to a secure society.
(Thanks to all the apparent consternation it causes, the ellipses are pretty much obligatory, at this point.)
