View Full Version : I really don't want to see small market teams competing for titles

However, I don't mind a good play-off series or two. The Skunker 8 was dam exciting. :lol Parity in the league will destroy it...those who say we need a hard cap and that all should be equal are the same ones that also believes corporations should not be forced to pay their fair share of taxes. :lol

Just like you don't beleive in wealth / income redistribution to the poor you shouldn't beleive in wealth income distribution to the small market teams.

If good economic policies are in place then all should thrive. However, the small market teams are looking for handouts. :lol I don't want to see teams like Grizzles, Pacers, Bucks, Raptors, Jazz, or the Spurs win titles. It's actually bad for the league when they do. If they can't afford a team in the long run then contraction is the overall answer.

Again when small market teams win the league loses. Remember when the Spurs made the finals in both cases they had the lowest ratings the NBA has ever seen. In 2003 the Spurs vs the Nets had a 6.5 Neilson rating and in 2007 the Spurs vs. Cavs was even worse with a 6.2 the lowest ever on record. My case is made.

Billy Hunter in this candid interview pretty much solidified my POV on this topic..Stern is getting ready to destroy his own product at the behest of the small market / bad investor / jealous hearted teams

No one gives a fuck what you want, welcher.

It's what fair. An even chance for all teams. LA and NY will still have it's own thing, will still be a huge allure for any player outhere.

The upheaval that a hard $45 million cap would wraught would be incredible to behold. Unimaginable.

It would suck for some teams that overpayed their current stars, but surely they can pày for it anyway. When the new contracts kick in, everyone can adjust.

those who say we need a hard cap and that all should be equal are the same ones that also believes corporations should not be forced to pay their fair share of taxes. :lol
Huh? People who want corporate taxes to be as low as possible are free market right wingers who believe in capitalism. Wanting there to be a hard salary cap and equality in the league is a socialist belief. How exactly does someone who supports a purely capitalist country support a socialist NBA?

If it were up to me, I'd WANT a hard salary cap and an even playing field for every team, but I know that system would have catastrophic effects on the NBA.

I actually agree with this shit. I think all small market teams except for the Spurs and Jazz (because they are historic) should be considered for contraction or relocation. Fuck a luxury tax or a hard cap. This isn't the NFL where you have 53 man rosters. This is the NBA where you have 12 man rosters. If a team cant handle the contracts of 12 individuals then the team should consider relocating.

I don't care for a hard cap either. Keep the current system except get rid of guaranteed contracts. Garbage players should be cut whenever. Long-term guaranteed contracts hurt small market teams more than anything else. Hard cap is stupid. Punishes the teams that actually make money.

I think a hard cap can actually level the field more. I'd like more upsets. Aside of a few here and there, there has been no surprises in the last 10 years.

They usually don't unless they stumble upon greatness like Tim Duncan. It's hard to win on a small market team. Anyone can win on a big market team.
