Can we finally get a good new Sci-Fi?
October 28th

I have not seen any of director Andrew Niccols other movies. Have you?
Lord of War (2005)
The Terminal (2004)
S1M0NE (2002)

He did assistant produce and screenwrite The Truman Show (1998). I liked that.

Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried

In Time Writeup: In the near future, people are immortal because the aging gene has been deactivated. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency. The rich can live forever, and the rest have to negotiate for their immortality. When a young man comes into a fortune of time, he ends up on the run from a corrupt force known as "time keepers."

The premise is interesting enough but whatever desire I have to see it dies every time they get to the part of the promo where Timberlake says something like, "No one should be immortal if even one person has to die." He seems like a talented dude but that delivery is soap opera bad.

I hear you. But in world were Chaz Bono continues to advance in a dance competition, we just have to put up with Hollywoods extreme bar lowering methods. I'm hoping the script is strong enough to make it good.

I saw all three of the movies. Not among my favorites, but they were really well done. I'm sure they appeal to others far more than they did to me.

I like movies based on time travel and time in general. I also like movies about dreams, like "Inception".

The one in the OP sounds interesting, but it really blows when a director takes a great concept and shits on it. It ruins it for other directors who could have done a much better job.

Imagine Spielberg doing "Navy SEALS", and doing it without Sheen. It would have been a great movie. As it stands, it's barely a B rated movie.

Fortunately, The Matrix was done right the first time, not by some low budget Shyamalan style director.

That means he is good. Doesn't stick with one style.

Don't you hate the actors that are always typecast in the same roles? I like the ones who can do a variety of roles. John Lithgow is an example of an actor who can play multiple types of roles real well.

Speaking of Spielberg, he directed this, not Andrew Niccol.

Niccol did GATTACA. If he did In Time, I might actually see it now, in spite of Timberlake.

Gattaca is a great film, but his others have sucked imho. Really disappointed by Lord of War. That's the kind of movie I typically like, but it sucked.

Spielberg doesn't even do Spielberg anymore...
He's branched out. He operates with a big budget and doesn't take shortcuts. He's made some shitty films as well, but even his worst is better than many people's best.

It was a good movie.

Tom Hanks is an such a great actor.

His role in "Road to Perdition" was amazing.

:lmao of all the things to describe Shyamalan as, "low budget" is one of the dumbest.

Both movies were really good imo. Hopefully this one lives up to expectations. That said, I'm eagerly awaiting DiCaprio again. After Inception, I was quite impressed.

Im hoping Disney did a good job wigh John Carter. Shyamalan is a complete joke.

The paid off critics are giving it a lukewarm-warm response. Like C+/B-
Tomatoes at only 37%.

Please post if you see it.

That looks like it's going to be a really good movie.

Disney scares me sometimes because I keep expecting them to kiddie it up past the point of being interesting to adults. They've surprised me a few times.

Leo is one of the best in Hollywood imo. Surprised me big time to see he didn't turn out to be some shallow pretty boy. Same with Pitt, he's a really good actor. I could say the same for Damon, but Ben, not so much, however Depp is above all of them.

I'm hoping it's more. Don't follow these two and hope these reviews are not accurate:
Rolling Stone Peter Travers "Pretty cast. Potent premise. Piss-poor execution."
and
Filmcritic.com Bill Gibron "...soulless and pointless."

Depp has been steady clowning himself for years with his wannabe Buster Keaton act. He hasn't done anything worthwhile since Dead Man.

I know what you're saying but he's done plenty of good stuff since then.
Blow, Donnie Brasco, Astronauts Wife, Secret Window to name a few.

Brasco was ok, but the only reason Secret Window was entertaining was Turturro.

I don't think Depp has done anything as good as Dead Man since Dead Man, and there's certainly been more meh than good in that span, but there have been plenty of good performances since Dead Man. Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas, From Hell, Chocolat, Sleepy Hollow, and The Libertine all came after that one. And I wasn't as impressed with Public Enemies as a lot of other people seemed to be, but I thought he was good in it.
