The players won't start missing paychecks until next month, and they have almost $200 million returned to them from escrow to tide them over for a bit. As Spurs owner Peter Holt reportedly said during negotiations, the players haven't felt enough pain yet.

Adam Silver and the Spurs' Peter Holt said the owners don't intend to budge on a 50/50 BRI split.

The union side claims Holt told the players: "Take it or leave it."

What kind of shit is that? Then he went on with Stern and lied talking about the players walked out of negotiations. Many media outlets are saying that is untrue.

I thought the Spurs' organization was classy? :depressed

Holt isn't the owner, he's the rep of the investor group that owns the Spurs.

True. Undoubtedly, he speaks only for his ownership group and most likely for the tallest of the investors in that group, David Robinson.

Therefore, it's clear to me that David Robinson is to blame for the current labor strife.

Oh man, now we're going to get trolled with David Robinson chasing Billy Hunter and Fisher around with a bible during negotiations.

I think the owners should offer to amend the CBA to permit players to have ownership stakes in the teams and then remind the players that they're now bargaining against themselves.

Must I always have to sift through the bullshit just to bring clarity to you assholes. Holt is being selfish here. Hes trying to relive the past by purposely shortening the season so his team has a shot at winning another asterisk title like in '99. He knows that the average person doesnt remember tragic events beyond 10 years, so why not try to cash in while everyone is sleep, again.
It looks different from every angle. From where I sit, it looks like there's a lockout anytime the LA team to beat becomes the Dodgers or the Clippers. With neither Boston nor LA running the table these days, the NBA isn't making any money because the bandwagon fans that are a huge majority of LA's crowd turn to other things like coffee house sex and Frasier reruns.

Laker fans should be thankful for the lockout. Otherwise you get to watch your hero wither away under the tutelage of Mike Brown.

Needs to stop giving mind-boggling contract (extension) offers to certain players. These owners can't seem to help themselves. It's amazing how clueless they can be.

A few years ago the RJ connection seemed like a golden deal. Since he's been pretty much ineffective with the game style the Spurs have been forced to run, it seems to be not a good deal. It could turn around however.

& you ain't off the mark in my estimation. He always seems & looks on the precipice of being good. He honestly looks fine being shitty. It's right there. He just can't keep hold of it.

It shouldn't take much to realize RJ (particularly an older version) isn't worth it. Call it a sixth sense or instinct. No need for stats. Same thing for owners that offer Arenas over $100 million. There are plenty of other examples out there.

In terms of restricting the team's cap space and roster flexibility, no doubt. But in economic terms, let's say Buss gets 50% ROI on that $90M. I don't know exactly what it is, but Kobe is one of the few superstars that can generate a healthy level of profit.

Joe Johnson might be a nice guy, (and apparently the Hawks owner(s) really likes him), but I get the sense he's not one of those few superstars. What do you think?

Buss isn't getting 50% ROI after The Skunker... it's only going downhill from there...
