We all know that the Spurs get no respect from the media or the show-boat loving average NBA fan, no matter how great the team's accomplishments. But which player in this already underrated team's past or present is the most underrated of all time and why?

So instead of contributing your thoughts on the question posed, you start out with an insult, or am I missing something?

Bruce Bowen. The Spurs were defensive turnstiles on the perimeter both before and after him.

I just find kinda ironical to see you starting a thread about "media or the show-boat loving average NBA fan" not respecting and underrating players while you started a thread few weeks ago claiming that Parker has been exposed. You are worse than these "media or the show-boat loving average NBA fan" at not respecting and underrating great Spurs players.

And I agree with baseline bum, Bowen is the answer. I still can't believe he didn't get a single defensive player of the year award. Marcus Camby, seriously?

Tony Parker
I agree with this.

There have been stretches where Tony was the main driving force for the Spurs, and they did well (including the last Finals). Still, so many here act like he's useless, but you are the same lot who probably wanted a JKidd trade.

If it sounded like I was saying Parker actually has been exposed in that other thread, that's not what the thread was about. It was about debating whether that was the case. I actually really like Tony Parker but I have my doubts about him overall and wanted to see what the real experts thought. I am not an expert and I was hoping some more knowledgeable folks would enlighten me. Obviously people are going to think what they want, but for what it's worth, I am not a Parker hater. He is part of the fabric of this Spurs team and it couldn't be the same without him.

I appreciate your input as one of the serious contributors to this board. Thanks.

There's no right answer. Bowen is probably the most correct answer. Something in my gut is telling me Mario Elie could use some more credit though. IMO he was much of the backbone of the Spurs' in 1999, despite originally being drafted in the 7th round. He was ultra tough and had the same killer instict Manu has, minus some of the skill and talent. He is the guy I would pick just in case of a brawl with the opposing team - a fighter and a winner.

I'll say every Spur player is underrated.
Take TP: he is one of the best PG and still hated by his own town fans and ignored by the league.
Manu should have been at least 5 or 6 years ago considered like NBA MVP but still not, always kobe kobe and kobe. I still give credit to Barkley who is the unique person in NBA who sucking Manu's dick while everyone should.
Tim is a Legend but people are capable of comparing him to KG...
What a shame.

BRUCE by far. Since he retired we have done squat! He pissed of every opponent he played against. Darelle Revis is the BB of the NFL. Hopefully, the Spurs will retire his # before he is too senile to remember. What did I just rite!

Bruce Bowen had a rivalry going with the most prolific scorers in the NBA and got into the heads of many. Considering his limited offfensive abilities and to still have a rivalry with guys like Kobe Bryant shows just how big the guys heart is.
