the graphics arent anything special but boy is the game fun. i was a douche and the first chance i got i took the jet and kamikazeed the other teams base. i was concerned with the 30fps but the game runs well love the destruction although its beeen toned down in some maps ive seen. great value you get a decent single player fun coop and awesoem multiplayer. i love that you can basically jump on any server you want not the matchmaking of cod where you are at the mercy of their choice of map

So.. What exactly is the difference between this game and Bad Company 2? Both I own the xbox version and other than very small things I don't see a difference.. and all I was hearing from the majority of BF3 fans that were MW3 haters is that MW3 is the same game as the last.

I do like the game.. clearly meant to be played on PC.. but it's good not great. Id much rather have gears 3, uncharted 3, Batman, Skyrim, MW3, Halo anniversary... the only games that I would buy it over that came out recently or are coming out is Dark Souls, Dead Rising 2 OTR, and Rage.

Not knocking it.. but seriously I don't see what is so great about getting spawned (unless you have a squad member that isn't getting shot at the moment) 4 miles away from what's going on.. either driving there or walking there.. getting out.. then getting shot because you didn't see that little small dot in the background that was a guy (and I'm working off a very high end 60 inch so it isn't my tv). Death match was fun.. though the spawns are fucked up.

I'm not. I think I've gone out of my way in every post to note that I realize that it wasn't made for consoles. That doesn't change the fact that EA marketed it to console players as the "CoD killer". It was stupid marketing.

Game is awesome. What a complete 180 from the beta version. I didnt buy the bullshit during beta that "...this beta is 2 versions previous to current build".

Well, DICE is either extremely adept at quashing hundreds if not thousands of bugs in less than a month, or they were telling the truth.

The game runs at a flawless pace. There is so much detail, light and shadows, its almost difficult to identify targets at a distance. Its fucking incredible.

Snipers are still too dominant, IMO, but thats the case for any FPS.

Basically my experience with it on the PS3 has been the same as what most of the reviews say: Multiplayer = fun Coop = fun too Campaign = sub par.

I enjoyed the Bad Company campaign but this one is just not very fun. At least multiplayer seems awesome as hell and even though its not PC it still looks good.

I would say yes well worth it. i wasnt sure if i would get it after the disaster that was the Beta but Im glad i did. The firefights in this game kickass. The maps are vast and there are a lot of snipers but you can hit them with noob tubes from pretty far :) you get 6 rpgs as engineer.

I have tried sniping and can not hit the broad side of a barn in this game. Don't know how some people are so good at sniping me.

Definitely a bad ass game. It takes a lot longer to upgrade weapons than the other BF's. I only have a couple hours in though. So far I'm having the most success as an engineer just because of the tank destroying, but I really wanna upgrade my assault so I can start reviving some mofos.

I had zero experience with the BF series and had a pretty good time with Black Ops. There is absolutely no comparison as this game destroys any game in the Call of Duty series. There's so much to offer for MP. I love the big maps and at times the Sniping is overpowered but for the most part its manageable since most of the maps are spread out.

This game is a ton of fun.

I must have played on a pretty damn good clan server last night because I got curb-stomped in multiple 64 player TDM.

My global stats say I have a 1.5 k/d, which is about correct. Some games I kill it, others I am average and a few I fail.

But last night I couldnt get 5 kills to my 11 deaths in every single game.

Anyway, this game is outrageously awesome. The sound alone, of the planes, tanks, explosions and commands...really immersive.

I do have one complaint though. The shear volume of information on the HUD display, especially when youre near a capture point in Conquest, can completely fill your screen. So much so that you cant see the sniper from across the way drawing a bead on you. I wish there was an option to be able to turn off the Capture point info entirely and reduce the distance of relative info. I dont have to know that someone spotted a tank 1 km away from my current position. I really dont have to know where every single teammate is by way of little blue triangles filling my entire screen.

I am sure this is a complaint for a lot of people, but I should take a screenshot sometime. Its ugly and ridiculous.

Beyond that, game is bad ass. Everything it was advertised and more. I hadnt played a BF game since BF2142 (i dont count the BC entries, entirely different). I am mildly disappointed in the destructible environments, I thought there would be far more, far bigger with even larger destruction, but this isnt the case.

Those are really my only two complaints.

EDITED: Oh, and snipers. Once again, as with all FPS games, snipers are unrealistic and have far too great an effect on the battlefield. There is a reason armies do not roll out 40% of their squad as snipers. It should be harder to snipe, it always should be, but once again, it isnt.

I thought the destructibility was going to be off the charts too. I just put a tank round in a small guard tower and to my amazement it didn't explode in a million pieces. I still probably have less than 3 hours total put in and have been on maybe 5 or 6 maps... but I'm incredibly impressed with the game in every other facet.

I adjusted only mouse sensitivity and bound grenades to middle mouse button. Everything else default.

Grenades being on the "G" key was too difficult for me. You had to remove your finger from the WASD config to throw a grenade, precluding you from strafing right to hit the key.

Knife being "F" is fine for me. Although, I must say, I am not very good at shanking people. Do I need to be closer? Do I need to kneel down to kill a prone opponent? I am not very good at the mechanics just yet.

I think I need to get on an empty server to figure some things out. When I played SoF2, I used to work on things a lot on an empty server with just me and 2 buddies.

Main things I know I suck at right now:

1. Maps - Dont know why, but I always struggle with direction and perspective. This is always the case for me on any FPS game. I take an inordinate amount of time to figure maps out.

2. Bullet drop - The empty server time would help me here. Pick a spot at varying ranges and shoot for it. Adjust accordingly.

3. Knifing - mentioned it earlier. Not sure of the exact mechanics, distances, etc. I play Assault so I am usually in the thick of things, no time to knife, really.

4. Grenades - In SoF2, I could drop a grenade at someone's feet without really even having to see them. I can barely judge where my grenade is going to land in BF3. Again, empty server time would help immensely.

A big question of mine is the difference in weapons. I have yet to see a "stat sheet" or graph for the weapons in BF3. This gun is more accurate than that gun, but its fire rate is low and damage is medium. That sort of thing. Right now, I am just using what I *think* should be more accurate (since thats always the most important thing for me as a player...accuracy). The M416. But the gun climbs a lot, even with the heavy barrel and foregrip. I just unlocked the HOLO sight, but I usually only use the RDS. Scopes give position away and I do not like to do that, especially considering range = bullet drop and I am not particularly good at judging that just yet with assault rifles.

knifing is a bit weird in that if youre successful it goes into an animation and you're pretty exposed during it. I knifed 3 guys a little earlier by flanking around them. One guy was prone and I was standing up so it is possible to knife from upright on a prone guy.

This is the first PC game I've played online since Return to Castle Wolfenstein and when I experience surprise encounters I tend to freak out and hit multiple buttons instead of being calm the way I would be with a console controller.

While not top of the line or anything, most games are not bottlenecked by the CPU. Unless you spend a lot of time in multiple, resource intensive programs all running at once, the CPU is totally fine. Its not great, but it certainly isnt weak. With a good/great aftermarket cooling system, you could OC that CPU pretty hard and still keep it stable.

RAM is cheap, so you'll see people with an insane amount (like 16GB at 4*4), but there is no game in the world that will ever use that...not even remotely close. If your system has 4GB or more, youre good. I assume its DDR5 (or 3?), right?

Completely unimportant to the conversation. If your HD is 7500+ rpm, youre golden.

Here is your bottleneck and here is where this system will struggle mightily to run any recent, graphic-intensive games at high-ish settings. Will the 450 run BF3? I am sure it could...at less than 30 fps and running hotter than hell on low-ish settings.

If you want to experience BF3, The Witcher 2, Metro 2033, etc games to their fullest, youre going to need a new card. I dont know anything about Radeon cards anymore, I havent built a PC in years.

I have always trusted EVGA, mostly because their cards have a lifetime warranty and that I have never had one fail on me. You can get a GTX560 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130660) for less than $200 and it will smoke your old card and play BF3 on High settings at 1080p hitting 30-60 fps.

Unless you know this seller personally, I would never suggest buying a used CPU from anyone. Thats just me, though. I know how some people treat their rig, constantly OC-ing, pushing the limits, some of those components might be quite literally, one small power surge away from total failure.

So I cant give you an answer on whether the price is good or not. All I can say is that if youre at $550 with him/her, it might be a good buy depending on the other components.

But I would still drop a new card in it. If youre going to do that, you might as well build one from scratch. You can build a pretty killer rig for less than $800.

Install it. Monitor it. Any GPU that gets above 90 degrees Celsius, thats a problem. If you have a LCD keyboard, it will display the temps on that so you dont have to Alt+Tab to see.

Basically, your tower should not sound like an aircraft carrier when gaming (unless youre the one manually upping the fan speeds).

AFAIK that's too hot. I don't know what a GPU should run at though but I'm fairly certain 100c is an absolute cut off. Your heatsink might not be functioning properly.

When Rage came out nvidia released some drivers directed to both rage and battlefield 3. If you are crashing while playing multiplayer and already have those drivers, it's probably their servers (unless you are playing the campaign, then it's probably your pc).

Comes out too late. I think even BF3 is pushing it to be honest, since it came out with only 2 months left in the year. I don't think a game can really establish itself as a contender in that amount of time, with the necessary prep and time to see how the game excels over the long haul.

Besides, Skyrim still has to impress. It'll likely be stellar but no game is ever a lock down for GotY.

Get a grip. Makes all the difference in the world.

Also use burst fire, 2-3 rounds at a time.

I can tell I'm getting much better the more I get accustomed to the maps. I'm around a 1.4 KD right now and should settle in at around 1.8 or 2.

Right now I could care less about my K-D. I'm just getting as many points as I can to get the unlocks faster. in maps where there arent any vehicles the shotty is just simply not fair. its the only way i have upgraded the sniper class. i dont know why i would ever need a 4xscope for a shotty but i unlocked that too. the single fire sniper is nice, the automatic is pretty weak. the jets are pretty damn boring. nothing to kill so i cant upgrade it. the jet is only useful it you have heat seeking missiles.

In MW, the only ways for you to die is to be shot, blown up by a grenade/rocket, or falling. That's it. Doesn't leave a lot of room for variety.

i can agree sniping sucks but they had to counter balance it. in bad company 2 everyone played as recon aka sniper. i always hated getting stuck with the camping sniper in my squad. some dudes would seriously go to the back of the beginign spawn camp shoot dont get kills and call mortars that did nothing.

My W/L ratio is still pretty bad, but I can't count how many times I've joined a match about 98% through and gotten the L 15 seconds later. Rarely happens with W's because usually people drop from the losing team, opening up slots.

just finished my 17th service star. Trying to get one for each weapon until I choose one that I like the most. So far it's the m16a4 as assault, g36c as engi, pkp pecheneg as support, and mk11 (havent been recon often) as recon.

I mainly play as Assault or an Engineer. I think I could control recoil better with a mouse but playing on the PS3 its harder so I go with the M249 (support) and usually the F2000 (assault).

I really prefer support with claymores. I almost never play as recon as I don't play very well with it and I don't really enjoy playing as an engineer. I'd rather have the benefits of another class.

MAV's are greatness on any map with a lot of choke points. Think grand bazaar and operation metro. You can pretty much fly it aimlessly on operation metro and get in the 30's of kills.

I don't know about ps3, but on the pc there's maps that are 24 hour operation metro with 1000 tickets. you can just plop a motion sensor down... find a dead body, switch classes, and keep dropping med packs/ ammo packs for a ton of points. there is always choke points in OM and the points will flow.

banned from my first server today because they were suspecting i was using a hack.

I had like 8 pretty good heli take downs from my tank ... about 3 or 4 of which were really lucky. We were on Firestorm and I was just leaving US spawn in tank when I fired a random shell above a heli icon. Didn't think anything of it until it popped up I got 2 kills. Probably about 3/4 of the distance of the map away.

The last kill i got that sealed the deal was near the construction site i was RU heading just below that big ass mountain and the chopper was using the small hill as cover to go up and down. I fired a round just above the hill and he climbed right into it.

Also, if you grind on Metro maps, you can go up ranks like crazy. I average about 7000 points per 64 player op metro map, and I hit over 10k pretty regularly, although that's obviously tick dependent.

Thats pretty nuts. I'm 39 right now and I've had it since launch. Granted, I sucked ass when I first got it but I'm pretty good now. Not great, but I've gotten FAR better.

Pet peeve is that on PS3 not enough people "spot". I spam select in order to spot but it seems rare to have anyone else doing it.

meh... famas was ok... once i service starred it i stopped using it.

I only do 64 player servers so i need better ammo conservation and it fires so fast it's pretty much 1 clip = 1 kill unless you have a nice group together. 1 on 1 it's a beast but most of my engagement are mid range.

lol i went 30-2 at caspian border yesterday with the frogfoot. just bought the game on christmas and already have my fifth flying star.

good times and lots of blown up tanks. i even mastered strafing infantry :lol hunting snipers and rpg snipers is the best.

only problem is if i get in a dogfight with a decent pilot i end up literally flying around in circles with him the entire match...i did max out the sensitivity on my controls and that helped out a ton. not a fan of prolonged dogfights though. they arent my strong point.

i also started using guided missiles so i can spam mark targets with the camera and then use the machine gun to finish them off. its great for finding targets :tu.


oh and fuck runway campers. those guys are pussies.

practice. dont use heat seekers at all and just use your machine gun. if you're on the tail of another jet, make sure to lead it like you are duck hunting. (that took me forever to figure out...when i did i was like oh shit duh...)

it's really difficult at first because the other jets have air radar, so don't give up until you get it yourself.

as far as knocking tanks out, it really depends on what type of jet youre flying.

my favorite by far is the frogfoot/a10 (on rush) because the machine gun is OP. i use laser guided missiles to spot targets on the ground and then rip them up with the gun. that way ill sometimes get 30+ kills in one round.

fighter jets (on conquest) are a different story. the machine gun is weak as hell so its really only good for other jets. ill use the rocket pods on ground targets and helis, then finish off with the gun. make sure to use your throttle after you break into a turn for the sharpest turn possible.

flares are really the only reasonable secondary to have because of the amount of rockets youll have shot at you. extinguisher works fine as well but sometimes it wont even kick in, and youll be busy dodging rockets all day instead of killing targets.

the hud on your screen may jump around but your real crosshairs are the stationary ones in the middle of the screen that do not move.

a really good tip is to max out your sensitivity controls in options that way your jet will turn on a dime.

if you play online with ppl you know its always nice to have friends helping you out with spotting targets, soflam'ing or getting into the other jet.

On PC you get some really sick pilots using a joystick and throttle. I stay out of the air as much as possible because I know there are better pilots on the team and Im more of an infantry/tanker anyway.

patch is up and EA just about ruined the servers. the whole buy-your-own-server gimmick is terrible. people actually pay to have a server and set their own settings, whereas EA shut down their own sponsored servers to save money.

so now every game i get into has 800+ tickets or bullshit settings.

jets are even more OP and they nerfed frag rounds, which is great but at the same time nerfed ALL frags (grenade launchers, etc.). this game had alot of promise and a decent patch would make it badass. now its just...meh.
