Do any of you like the fact that we're rebuilding on the fly? I really love the fact that we have been doing this for quite some time, and by doing this we don't have to see our team go through yearly slumps ala L.A in 06

This.

It was enough to sustain us when we still had a top caliber player in Tim Duncan and two stars in Parker and Ginobili. Now that two of the big three are in their twilight, the Spurs are either going to need to seriously retool in order to get back on top, or face another slump like the one that landed us Timmy.

The problem with a prolonged run of greatness is that you're not going to get one of those top draft picks to propel you back to the top. There hasn't been a top draft choice as good as Tim Duncan since, well, Tim Duncan. I'm sure Pop has a plan to have the Spurs tank the season when the next great big man comes along.

Being on the bubble, 1st team out of the playoffs or so, is probably the most expensive place to be. You get shit for lottery picks and you don't do well enough to make the post season matter financially. Still you have a high salary because getting there every year requires some halfway decent players. It's that one piece that gets you over though, and that was Duncan. We haven't found another since.

"Pop has a plan ..."

... to retire, when or soon after Tim.
