Without the owners investing billions of dollars the NBA wouldn't even exist.
Without the thousands of team employees the NBA wouldn't be able to operate

Its the NBA owners who are paying the team employees (usually around 100 per team)
Its the NBA owners who have invested money
Its the NBA players who have invested nothing, yet are blessed to have a platform to play on and be rewarded ridiculous salaries.

So yea. The owners deserve the bigger piece of the pie. Anyone who thinks otherwise obviously doesn't understand how business works. The NBA players have long been compensated more than enough money.

I don't believe anyone disagrees with anything you said. The problem is, its the owners who paying these players these ridiculous contracts. Yet, the owners are claiming they are losing money in the process. Now, the owners want to cut revenue sharing from the players because of the ridiculous contracts the owners gave the players in the first place. If the owners truly want to solve their "financial problems" they are claiming, then stop giving players ridiculous contracts, contract or relocate the teams that are losing money, and rid themselves of the WNBA

Well son its like that in almost all pro sports unfortunately. The NBA's biggest problem isn't even a money issue. Its the players themselves. Its hard for most of America to get behing the "thug life" mentality shown by a large percentage of NBA players now days.

I believe what also hurts the NBA is the obvious lack of effort and desire to play shown by players during the regular season. Chris Paul is a good example of this. Why should a fan pay $100 for a ticket midway thru the season whenever a good percentage of the players on all teams aren't giving 100%? The NFL is about the only league that somewhat has it right and if the NBA followed their lead then they may be able to prevent the lack of effort from happening. A player signs a 6 year, $75 million contract but only $30 million of it is guaranteed. The rest must be earned thru performance incentives, etc. Then I guarantee you we would start seeing better quality basketball during the regular season instead of just "when it counts".

No son, it would be nothing like that because Obama doesn't comprise 100% of politics. The NBA comprises 100% of the NBA.

If you want the NBA to be over, let it be over for you. For all intents and purposes it will be the same thing.

For the rest of us, we want to see games. I don't give a shit about the financial aspects of it. Sure we can wax philosophical about it from our layman armchairs, but the bottom line is that we just want to start the season already.

I would agree that NBA fans and even casual NBA fans don't give a shit if the players get screwed if they sign the deal or pussy out and don't sign. Fans just want to watch the games and root for their teams. They don't give a shit about rich grown ass men complaining about millions of dollars. Most fans are hurting big time financially so you can imagine how little if not no sympathy they have for the players.

I think the players are fuckin idiots if they don't take this current deal. They will only be hurting themselves. The NBA's popularity will go down big time if they are bitches and decertify. They will lose fans too.

So you want the season canceled so you can get a full refund.

I don't buy season tickets. Either way you wouldn't be getting money back, and if there was never a lockout to begin with, you would have spent 8K to watch your team get their shit pushed in again and still felt cheated. In a move that jeopardizes the NBA season, the NBA players union rejected the league's latest offer and said it would begin the process to disband the union.

European Pressphoto Agency NBPA executive director Billy Hunter (right), and NBPA president Derek Fischer (left) speak to reporters following a meeting with player representatives from all 30 teams in which they rejected an offer to the end the current lockout.

Labor talks "completely broke down," said union Executive Director Billy Hunter. The union said it has begun legal proceedings to dissolve the union, a tactic that would take the dispute to the courts.
"The 2011-12 season is now in jeopardy," said NBA Commissioner David Stern.
Journal Community (http://online.wsj.com/community)

The decision came after a five-hour meeting among player representatives at a New York City hotel. Mr. Hunter said an anti-trust lawsuit should be filed in the next day or two. Union president Derek Fisher said the idea to dissolve was approved in "unanimous fashion."
Jeffrey Kessler, a union lawyer, said the decision came after the players agreed that "bargaining completely failed" and said the players wanted to assert their antitrust rights.
The NBA had yet to comment on the decision, but Mr. Stern said over the weekend that player contracts could become void if there is no union and blamed player-agents for the movement.

Last week, Mr. Stern offered a new proposal that would have a 72-game season start on Dec. 15 but said the owners were done negotiating beyond the offer.
The main sticking point has been how to split the league's $4 billion in revenue. The owners' latest proposal revolves around what is essentially a 50/50 split. The last contract, which expired in July, gave players 57% of the revenue. Other logistical issues like salary cap structure remain unresolved as well.
"The players were not prepared to accept any ultimatums," Mr. Hunter said. "They thought it was extremely unfair."
The lockout also affects Walt Disney Co.'s ESPN and ABC, and Time Warner Inc.'s Turner Sports. Advertisers spent $807 million on NBA games that aired on cable and network TV last season, according to Kantar Media, an ad-tracking unit of WPP PLC.
An average of 2 million people watched regular-season NBA games on ESPN last year, and an average of 2.5 million watched regular-season games on Turner's TNT, according to Nielsen Holdings NV. But ad spending is heavily weighted to the latter portion of the NBA season.

Just watched that video from Stern. What a pompous, smarmy asshole. That entire video was incredibly unprofessional and sounded like some angry spouse in a court debate about how his wife was doing things that pissed him off. Would love to see him get knocked down a few pegs. It would be awesome if the court specifically threw the book at him for being a lawyer and still being in violation of antitrust laws.

That said, I think the players are in a no-win situation. They're probably going to end up wishing they would have taken the deal.

The Mavs will be the defending champs until they either don't make the playoffs or get eliminated. The same thing happened to the TB Lightning in 2004. They were technically the defending champs for almost 2 years.
