The worst players always say things like "I hate pocket aces". I met a girl at a local casino recently who was fundamentally sound but made one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard from someone who obviously knows the game at least decently.

"I hate to get it all in preflop with AA"

Odd, nothing the winning player should like more than to get it all in PF with AA.

I think Dex meant he's had some bad beats with AA. Not that he doesn't really want them.

My favorite tell is when a crappy player starts grabbing a handful of chips when the action is still several places before. As if they are about to raise.

This. I still hope for them every time....even though they've screwed me more often than not.

I feel like I play them right. I try to raise the stakes PF to scare away most of the players (in bigger tables) and get it down to one or two opponents, and then if things don't look too bad on the flop (no obvious flush or straight draws on the board) and I'm in position, I'll start hard betting. I never try to trap because I know the more cards people see, the worse my chances get.

Still never fails, even if we go all-in preflop, I still end up getting beat by someone who rivers two pair or a straight or some BS.

If you've got suggestions, I'd be glad to try them.

I swear at least 100000000 times I've been dealt a pair of aces, a third ace was on the board, and I lost to someone else with an identical hand because they were closest to left of the dealer. Shit drives me nuts.

1) If you have an identical hand, you should be splitting the pot.

2) You should probably stop playing with 5 aces.

MannyIsGod

Dex - you have to be really bad to screw up aces. Just play them strong like you're doing but don't be too scared even if there is a draw on the board. More often than not weak players will lose more money folding aces than by being sucked out on. If you're up against a draw with aces more often than not on the flop you're still a huge (2:1 or so) favorite so you want people to come along but you want to make sure you're not giving them a good price. If you get sucked out on then just move on to the next hand.

When I played I never had a losing month with aces. I had months where I went on unbelievable slides and just didn't hit like I should have but never once did I have a losing month with AA,KK,QQ or AK. To be fair, in those months I probably played more hands than most players see in their entire lives so obviously the statistics will be much closer to the expected values but the point that the big hands will win out is true none the less.

I'm never unhappy to see rockets in the hole.

stop playing with 2 decks and tell your friends that equal hands split the pot.

TBH I'd rather sit across from the dealer. I get a better view of the whole table. Left of the dealer you usually get blocked by the dealer from seeing the dude to his/her right.

Also, TBH, I would kill for a four color deck live the way I always had it online as well as the dealer keeping a running total on the pot and my opponents stacks because having to count stacks and the pot on the fly really pisses me off.

My favorite is listening to people tell me stories about poker.

I don't understand how a reasonable person would think someone else would find it interesting about how they won or lost a hand.

It's as bad if not worse than someone telling me how their fantasy squad barely squeaked out a win last week because of ......

Then you need to play them better. What sucks is getting pocket aces getting two or more people to call and then seeing a couple of faces and no ace on the flop. You best check that or fold.

I know normally you split the pot. But for some reason on this online poker game on my phone it gives it to the person closest to left of dealer. Apparently some people plays it that way

I play Texas hold Em so its possible for two people to have 3 aces

I think Texas Hold 'Em is the general assumption these days.

But you said "dealt a pair of aces (aka pocket aces), with a third ace on the board". The only way someone else can have an identical hand than you is if they also have pocket aces, and that's pretty damn impossible with every single decks of cards I've ever seen. I would start checking sleeves if I were you.

The only way two people can have three aces is if there are two aces on the board. If you have pocket aces and there is one on the board, then your set of aces will beat anybody else's pair of aces.

My eyes get big and juicy when I hear someone say they hate pocket aces. I casually will get a seat change to make sure i have position on that player so I can stack them when they overplay their hand or attack them with agression if the board looks scary and I can bluff them.

Anyone who says they hate pocket aces does not know how to play them. They can be tricky but remember after the flop they are just a pair with multiple callers preflop be prepared to ditch them

Boom in Internet gambling ahead? US policy reversal clears the way.

The Justice Department has reversed a longtime view that online poker and lottery wagering are illegal. With the move, states are expected to engage in a high-stakes pursuit of new gambling-related tax revenues.

With global online gambling now worth an estimated $30 billion, and with online poker worth a potential $6 billion annually in the US, some are heralding the decision as a means for financially strapped states to leverage new revenue from legalized online gambling – and stave off at least some cuts to bureaucracies, entitlements, and public employee pension systems.

But gambling critics see the move as another major crack in America's moral foundation

"America's moral foundation" :lol :lol :lol

America the country has no moral foundation, except mythically. Some individuals supposedly are "moral", but the country? fuck no.

But Congress panders to the myth of America The Moral and let's its tail get wagged by the "Christian" Taleban imposing their morality on everybody.

A lot of variables has to be considered in order to understand how to play aces (Your position, how other's perceive you, flat- 3bet-4bet-opening ranges from all positions on the table from each player and their position ( EP MP C/O BTN SB BB ECT), Blinds+Ante's + BB's of each player.. The list can go on and on and on

Oh the mind game..

Try Merge Network (Carbon/Lock), both sites are open to U.S players . (As long as you pay our taxes)

The only downside is 6-8 week withdrawal process.

Also, should come as no surprise this happens as soon as Nevada passes regulations which require this type of ruling. Our legislature is so fucking owned by special interests.

Meh - I just go to the casinos near me when I have the time. I don't want to play against a lot of halfway decent players. I'm rooting for the return of ultrasoft games - not rocky games where I have to play a lot to actually get a decent return.

Heath Ledger
12-28-2011, 03:36 PM
its not always boring but there are definitely some long stretches, if you are only nut peddling then i can see how it would be a nightmare compared to playing online where you can nutpeddle on 10+ windows and you get to play a lot more hands.

table selection is everything. its not too hard to spot a lively table, (also dealers usually tip me off when i walk in my regular cardroom) in vegas if you see a table full of rocks you can go to any number of other casinos that have action.
