The Christian left is a term originating in the United States, used to describe a spectrum of left-wing Christian political and social movements which largely embraces social justice.
The most common religious viewpoint which might be described as ‘left wing’ is social justice, or care for the poor and the oppressed.

An example:
The sermon turns on an account of a recent suicide of a 49 year old man who was unemployed, then suffered a heart attack, was rejected for disability but was being hounded by the hospital to pay $70,000 in medical bills.

Its a fundamental difference between Paul and Jesus. It has always struck me how how Paul's teachings end up with the most influence in the church. That and John's blurb.

"It has always struck me how how ..."

"Christians" almost never talk about the revolutionary, paradigm-shattering Jesus, but love to dwell on and exploit the hate, vengence, out-right craziness of the OT, which of course the have to ignore much of, as they cherry-pick around the craziest stuff, and grubbing money non-stop. Hypocrits all.

Their "gospel" is full fear-mongering, hate, God-as-authoritarian SOB, which of course is the opposite of Jesus' love, peace, joy, happiness (except towards the (Wall St) moneychangers whose asses he kicked).

I have no doubt the many Christians in the splintered world of organized Christianity and their pastors are above all Christ- and NT-centered, and are fundamentally good people.

But the heavily politicized and money-grubbing tele-evangelists, "Christian" hate groups like the AFA, "Catholic" politicians like Rick Santorum, and all other assorted "Christian" Taleban and "Christian" supremacists dominate public/political/social discourse while the good Christians remain the silent.

Fair enough.

However, calm, rational and diplomatic don't get TV gigs - Billy Graham being the very notable exception.
