can't you just like answer the questions they ask you in a way where the defense will want you to be removed because you might be biased or something?

Here is what to expect.

You'll be put in a room with like 100-300 people.

First, they'll ask for a show of hands from people who can't do jury duty for some reasonable obligation (out of town, appointments, taking care of children, etc...). If too many people try to opt out, they will pull these people aside and actually start asking why, so if you try to opt out this way, you better have a good excuse.

Once they clear those people out, they will start going down the list of names of people left over. Probably only about 50% of those people will actually get called. The rest are free to go. You get your crappy pay (like 5 dollars), and leave.

If your name is called, you will be assigned to a panel for a case. You'll probably have to report back to the court at a later time, at which point they will start asking the jury panel questions to see who is a suitable juror. Here is where it is up to you as to how reasonable/honest you want to be with your answers. If you are straight up biased / prejudiced / outrageous, then you probably won't be kept on the panel.

When I went to JD, I was selected for a panel (probably one of like the last 10 names called), but our case got dismissed about 10 minutes before they called us into the court to start hearing details and begin the panel selection process. And that was that. A day out of a work and a measly 5 bucks that barely covered the gas I spent to get across town. God bless America.

also, wear an Ol Dirty Bastard t-shirt and always begin your answers with "well, I'm not sure but on Spurstalk, I heard..."

if they paid more than i would re-think about doing jury duty and take it more seriously.
at 6 bucks a day; everyone is guilty so i can go home.

This. And each time you poop, turn to the prospective juror next to you and say in a British accent, "I think the gov'ner has arrived."

Just say you want to be a juror, that you can tell if someone is guilty just by looking at them.

When they are going through the juror questioning, exclaim "GUILTY!" every time they call out a black jurors name.

Yes and no. The government pays you crappy, but if you work a full time job, you get paid for a full 8 hours of work in addition to your $6 (last time I went). So it may be boring as shit, but at least you get paid to sit on your ass and be bored.

So don't give them their conviction. If I ever get selected for any case involving drugs, the state's not getting a conviction.

That is fully within your rights as a jurist. Judges don't like it, but it is one of the things you can do.

If you think the law in question is fucked up, you can simply declare the defendant not guilty, even if the facts show they were guilty of violating the law.

I would do the same in just about any drug case that didn't involve violence.

What if a plumber was high and forgot to connect all the pipes back. So the house flooded and drowned a little baby (which can drown in only a quarter centemeter of water).

I think killing babies would be perceived as violence, intentional or not.

Yeah, I just wonder if you could get in legal trouble for going that route if you say you could convict in jury selection.

What if a plumber was high and forgot to connect all the pipes back. So the house flooded and drowned a little baby (which can drown in only a quarter centemeter of water).

Murder and criminal negligence that results in death would be vastly different than some guy sitting in his living room on a Saturday afternoon toking up and eating microwave burritos while watching movies.

Doesn't have to be violent, I guess, but still, I don't see that much harm in most use, especially for MJ.

I would be far less inclined to nullification if it meant that the person doing far more addictive/harmful stuff like herion or cocaine/crack/meth would get into treatment. That shit will fuck you up, and the quicker we get users to managing their addiction, the better.
