View Full Version : Which Spurs report to camp in the worst shape (if any)?

So, they report in what, a week?

Which players show up in great shape, and who shows up out of shape?

I'm sure Splitter and Parker will be in great shape and ready to go due to their play overseas. Duncan and Manu I have confidence in.

Leonard has a reputation as a hard worker and did stay active in Vegas. Anderson was in Vegas too, but has the body type to get a little worried over.

Bonner has been sitting in a lot of long meetings . . . maybe he'll be a little under his typical Bonner-ish standards.

Nobody knows if McDyess has been getting ready hardcore to play or rather taking it easy with a possible buyout on the horizon.

I could be wrong, but I think Neal was involved in some of those organized player games, so he might not be too out of shape. Plus he's making the minimum, he should have incentive to work like a beast this lockout.

Blair . . . I don't know. He's been big before, and I think he might have gained weight as last season went on. I don't recall seeing him in organized games this lockout, but maybe he did? But he's still on his low paying deal, I hope that the promise of the future contract will have had him staying in reasonable shape.

Jefferson I haven't seen or read anything about. He might have been on the partyboat all lockout, and it's not like he's in a contract year. He's been paid, and he's on the wrong side of 30. If I had to guess, I'd peg Jefferson as the guy who comes into camp in worse shape than usual. Maybe not Shawn Kemp in 98/99 bad, but after getting 10 minutes in the last game of the year and the drafting of Leonard, I can easily picture RJ pounding mimosas while lighting cigars with $100 bills so much during the lockout that he'll be the bloat bloat on media day.

Agree about Jefferson ... heard nothing in the last months about him hitting the gym. Blair was reported to look good. Lets see how serious Tonys shoulder injury is.

And hopefully Splitter is 100% fit to take part in all training camp sessions and preseason games ...

Blair signed with a team in Russia and played 4 games before being waived (16pts, 7 rbd per game tho)
Games in europe are every week for the local national league and sometimes another one for an european cometition so he had to work something like 3 or 4 week

Remember when Tiger was really good and odds would be set for Tiger against the field?

Blair was released from the Russian team on Oct 12th; I'll take Blair against the field.

Absolutely Tim Duncan

Matt Bonner. He will be out of breath, hunched and holding shorts after the first fast break.

He's been involved in the CBA all summer.

Blair is a young guy, though he might add weight, he probably won't be out of shape.

Duncan is always out of shape.

That's about it.

I know for sure Bonner was training some this Summer. My friend saw him running up mountains for training, I believe Mt Washington.

This article (http://www.projectspurs.com/2011-articles/november/dejuan-blair-im-not-fat-any-moreq.html) isn't from too far back, and if it is accurate, Blair should be in pretty good shape to start this season.

why would they waive Blair if he was scoring 16 pts and 7 boards a game???

Teams in Europe can play in European or regional leagues in addition to their domestic league. As I recall Blair's situation, he was brought in to help the team qualify for an additional competitive league. When they failed to qualify, they let him go. I assume it's because he wasn't worth the expense just to play in their domestic league.

according to McDonald, Jefferson is supposed to take a pre-camp physical on Tuesday. If McDonald is correct about that and is clear-headed enough to find out the results, we may have an early answer to the question posed by this thread.

Bonner estimates 8 to 10 players in the gym today. Duncan, Parker among them. Manu Ginobili expected sometime later today.
