A Republican lawmaker is blocking President Barack Obama's nominee to become ambassador to Russia over suspicions that the U.S. might provide Moscow with sensitive missile defense information.
The administration says it has no current plans to provide such data. But it says the assurances sought by Sen. Mark Kirk are so broad, they would prevent any substantial cooperation on missile defense.
The dispute with Kirk further complicates the Obama administration's efforts to get U.S.-Russian relations back on track at a time of increased tensions over missile defense.

It also has political overtones ahead of next year's elections. The administration considers improved relations with Russia, including the signing of a major arms reduction treaty, to be one of the big foreign policy successes of Obama's presidency. Republicans have accused Obama of granting too many concessions to Russia and getting little in return.

:lol :lmao :lmao at the Foxnews user comments:

As we see here in this quote, the "administration" is already counting on leaking our info to the commies.

Good for Kirk, this White House is anti-American, corrupt, and has and would continue to weaken and damage this country without oversight.

Smart Move.

If Obama is picking the guy, you know the possibilty of him being a mole is very likely.

Comrade Obama has already appointed two moles to the U.S. Supreme Court to undermine the Constitution as it is.

What do you expect? Secrets were leaked to China under the last democrat POTUS, with his placements. Isn't a measure of caution warranted?

The whole deterrence thing went beyond the notion of tactical a long time ago. There are so many delivery systems available to both sides that mutually assured destruction is still the obvious outcome. Even if they were to take out a couple fleets, several airfields and all known silos we would still be able to nuke them six ways to Sunday. We have nukes that fit on cruise missles with very long ranges.

Really when Bush Jr. invaded Iraq unilaterally and Putin and his party did not act, that showed no small measure of restraint. That would be akin to us doing nothing had they acted militarily in Venezuela.

Our policy is stupid to be adversarial with them in face of that but we need to justify a military budget.

It is in there that we are going to share sensitive information. Regardless of you gumption on the motives of Russia and if we are at war, that is a fact.

Also with Putin as the new king of Russia, it is not too far fetched to question it.

So Congress as a whole deems appropriate to share missile defense information with Russia, but one senator gets to block it? And you think that's ok?

Also with Putin as the new king of Russia, it is not too far fetched to question it.

Why? It's not like we don't already share sensitive information with Russia on a plethora of other topics (also listed in your linked bill).
