We all laugh when we see Bonner in the starting line up, because we all know it's probably going to happen. :(

What it will be:

Parker
Manu
Jefferson
Bonner
Duncan

What it should be:

Parker
Manu
Leonard (or Anderson)
Duncan
Splitter

But never forget the famous post-playoffs quote:

:pop: - "Maybe it's Matt Bonner (as starter)"

Unless the Spurs get multiple injuries to bigs, there's no way Bonner is starting. Whether they trade for a big or not, Bonner's position is set in stone: he'll be the third big, seventh man and play 20-24 mpg.

Two likely lineups:smchode:

At the bare minimum I better see Splitter in the starting lineup.

Barring the unlikely trade of RJ for a starter quality big, this will be the starting lineup on opening night.

What it will be:
Tony Parker
Vince Carter
Richard Jefferson
Tim Duncan
Matt Bonner

What it should be:
Parker
Anderson
Leonard
Blair
Splitter

Call me an asshole, and I hate to see it as much as anyone, but I think this is the year we really start to see Duncan taper off into a borderline starter. Let Parker see what he can do with some young legs for a change.

No trade:

Tony
Manu
RJ
Tim
Tiago

Don't see how you can start Blair over Tiago with same offensive limitations.

safe bet is:

Splitter at center
Duncan and Leonard at forwards,
Manu and Parker at guards....

cutewizard
12-05-2011, 11:31 PM
but if they can obtain a big (say Nene or Al Jefferson)

then that big at center, Duncan at forward

perhaps the small forward free agent they got
then the usual backcourt

my dream Spurs lineup would be:

Nene at center,
Duncan at power forward,
Howard at small forward
Manu and Parker

cutewizard

or if they trade Parker.............

His heartm his home and his doctors are in Phoenix, so I guess he will stay there. Otherwise I think the Spurs would be one of his top alternatives.

Assuming no trades and relevant free agent acquisition (which would suck)

Starting lineup
Parker, Anderson, Jefferson, Blair, Duncan

2nd unit
Neal, Ginobili, Leonard, Bonner, Splitter

Man, I wish it were Caron Butler instead of Josh Howard, though. That team could actually win it all.
