So whats your game of the year?
I have yet to play Skyrim or Arkham City, so I'm not sure.
UC3 was good, but I didn't blow me away like UC2 did (because it was like more of the same - not a bad thing but yeah). BF3 is fun as hell MP, but the campaign was so subpar I can't say its the best.

Skyrim, IMO... I haven't even played UC3, BF3, or AC.. but I just don't see how any of them would beat Skyrim..

Skyrim tbh.
lolomg Maxi bought UC3 and hated it. Shit looked gay, so it was never even in my thought process.

For some reason I hated skyrim because of all the hype behind it. Sometimes I get lost in the reviews and such and go in with high expectations. It was the case for me with bf3. Skyrim was the complete opposite I had high expectations and they were met. I was new to the series and had no idea what to expect(not much of a rpg player either) I am addicted to this game. I keep telling myself...one more mission....but no. Bandits and mages gotta fuck with me and I gotta show them who's boss :lol
It's the reason my days off are so dam short. I both love and hate skyrim.

I game on the cheap so my vote is admittedly behind the curve a bit. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is absolutely incredible though.

I think I liked UC3 precisely because of what you said: more of the same.
I do understand, though, that games should keep pushing the envelope if they wanna receive top honors, so...

For me its BF3. I wish I had patience for Skyrim or Zelda. My agenda is now instant gratification, blowing up shit and killing people. Not going on quests and trying to solve puzzles.

Quite the cool game. Played it at all, yet?
There is a very unique narration trick being used that *seems* to follow what you do in the world.
Not GOTY, but a very good game nonetheless.

Quit playing. Used to play a lot, cant anymore. I got very irritated having to constantly try and construct the ultimate word, which could take 5-10 minutes per game.
12 games later...
Fuck it. Deleted it.
I think the award is either going to Skyrim, Zelda, or Arkam City. But if I would have to say what my game of the year would be it would be Saints Row 3.. and I only say that because I haven't found the time yet to put into Zelda or Skyrim. As far as AC goes.. for whatever reason I really got into Arkam Asylum more.

My nephew brought his wii to my house about a month ago, still hasnt taken it home yet. I tried several games but none really captured my interest, probably the best of what he had was metroid prime and kirby's epic yarn (though the other kids that come over really liked the wii sports stuff and just dance). So last week I went out and bought skyward sword (for him, really!), just beat it last night, it was pretty damn good. It seems like its the only motion based game that doesnt feel like a total gimmick (though you still feel and look like an idiot raising the control above your head and flapping about). I guess it wasnt really ground breaking or anything, but like Ocarina of Time it was a well crafted adventure with a good mix of puzzles, action, exploration, good music, etc. I enjoyed it enough to plow through it pretty quick (it helped I was sick a couple days so I could play while my kids were at kindergarten :lol). Its a kids game, but it was fun and well executed. As a sidenote, I cant imagine how bad the Wii's controls were before motionplus.
Its been a while since I got into a game like that. A weekend ago I went to a friend's house who had Rage, BF3 and MW3 for his PC (i'm a PC/fps guy too, no consoles of my own), and tbh none looked remotely interesting (Rage in particular looked bad, what a fail from id :depressed). I'm probably going to buy either serious sam 3, skyrim, or batman; skyrim is interesting because of all the rave reviews but generally speaking I'm not very into fantasy RPGs, batman is probably the one I'd like most but I'm hearing its kind of short and disjointed, and serious sam is probably the one I'd use to like the most but Im not sure if my reflexes are still up to task :lol
I'll probably end up waiting for them all to go on sale with all the DLC...

The best thing about the Wii are the party games that the entire family can play. I like games like Tiger Woods golf for the Wii. Super Smash Bros is always fun, and so is Mario Kart. And you can't go wrong with Super Mario Wii.
The Wii is more of a family console than anything. It's intended to be light hearted fun, not serious gaming.

COD, Madden, Gears of War games are like the Black Eyed Peas/Nickelbacks of the world. Just mass produced shit to turn a buck while the masses file in droves to the stores and pick it up. Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly fine if you're into that but calling games like Skyrim "nerd gaming" is laughable.
And no I'm not a hipster when it comes to gaming. :lol

As far as gameplay goes Gears is pretty damn solid. It's got that snap to it (in several ways) that's just really rewarding. The reload mechanic alone is very satisfying. Great, great gameplay.
Too bad it's got that whole quasi homo-erotic/completely over the top jocular vibe tacked onto it. Makes it far less compelling than the system would otherwise allow.
Don't call Skyrim 'a nerd game'. This is 2011. Everybody in America is into some sort of 'nerdy' shit. And yeah, at least Skyrim's lead character isn't a walking phallic symbol.

I think technically since it came out this year it can be in contention for GOTY.
It def gets my vote.

It's not a port. It was remastered there's a difference. Improved graphics, boss rush mode, Mirrored and a harder master quest version. But i agree it probably has no chance. It did get 1 nod for goty so far though:

Being the late adopter that I am, I recently bought a PS3 bundled with Uncharted 3. I wasn't familiar with the series, so I wasn't expecting much, but it's actually a pretty good game. You're right about the shooting (and it goes for the movement as well): kind of floating and wobbly. But the environments/scenery are great (especially the ship graveyard) and the cut scenes aren't annoying and flow well with the game. Good story and writing. Multiplayer isn't great, but it's good enough.

I'm catching up a bit now. After Skyrim, I played and finished MW3, GOW3, Driver San Francisco, Dragon Age II, and now I'm playing Deus Ex: Human Evolution...
I enjoyed GOW3 quite a bit (I finished GOW1 but did not play GOW2). MW3 and Driver SF were fun. DA II was pretty average and repetitive. I'm enjoying Deus Ex so far.
I have Skyrim and GOW as GOTY contenders right now.
