"A patent lawsuit (http://www.itcblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/digitudeinnovations.pdf) (PDF) by patent licensing firm Digitude Innovations curiously targeted all mobile manufacturers except Apple. A TechCrunch story has revealed (http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/09/apple-made-a-deal-with-the-devil-no-worse-a-patent-troll/) that the patents (http://www.google.com/patents?id=D6oGAAAAEBAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=6208879&hl=en&ei=kRfjTpbgHe_CmQX68b2LBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDMQ6AEwAA) used (http://www.google.com/patents?id=-rQLAAAAEBAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=6456841&hl=en&ei=sxfjToviA-7ImAW1g7znBA&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDMQ6AEwAA) were transferred from Apple via a shell company to DI, and appear to cover features found in virtually all smartphones. The lawsuit even extends to companies that don't make Android phones, like Nokia and RIM, and to Android OEMs that Apple have not directly sued yet, like Sony. The business model of DI (http://www.prweb.com//releases/2011/03/prweb5171554.htm) clearly implies that Apple would benefit financially from the lawsuit as a company that contributed patents to DI's portfolio."

Except in Europe.

I would imagine DI would file suits in Europe as well.

Remember Sisvel International? You know, that company that linked up with Apple and Siemens in order to engage on a full-on patent assault during CeBIT 2010? It's back, and it's snapping up 47 patent families comprised of more than 450 patents and applications originally filed by Nokia. We're told that the patents and patent applications "cover technologies used in a wide range of mobile communications devices and services," with over 350 of 'em being called "essential" to second, third and fourth-generation communications standards, including GSM, UMTS / WCDMA and LTE. The balance of the portfolio -- just in case you're curious -- consists of implementation patents including video encoding optimization technologies. Not surprisingly, the acquired patents remain subject to certain prior agreements and Nokia is licensed under the portfolio as part of the acquisition. Head on past the break for the official word.

Kodick's business model the last several years has been to sue companies and make enough money to keep the rest of the sad operation in business. It didn't work, they're about thisclose to filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
