View Full Version : If Hasheem Thabeet were cut?

ESPN reports if Gasol is traded to Houston, they would use amnesty on Thabeet.
I for one would sign him and let him learn from Duncan.
Your thoughts?

I'd rather sign a New York City cabbie named Hasheem than this guy. Thabeet has absolutely nothing, and doesn't even belong in the league.

You have to really suck to get amnestied on a rookie deal.

They added the third year of D-League send-downs to the CBA for Thabeet.

I really wish they would expand the draft and make the system more robust. Its a good start but the NBA product needs better apprenticing.

Thabeet? Really? So Blair would have someone to build his confidence on in practice?

Actually, that last part could be worth the minimum.

Honestly, hell no. The guy was a number two pick and teams aren't seeing enough potential in him to even keep him.

I'm not totally convinced that the Toros would even sign him.

For the minimum? Maybe, as a 6th big in a short season to cover 10 minutes in cases of rest or injuries. Though I'd rather have our 2009 Big East product than him, and it's not close.

Wow, our big free agent move would be acquiring Hasheem Thabeet. It doesn't get any better than that.

Is there any worse description than "epic failure"?

Hasheem Thabeet was the #2 pick in the draft. Amazing what the difference between #1 and #2 was that year.

Actually, it is worse than that. We are not eligible to bid on amnestied players. Every team under the cap would have to pass on him at the league minimum before we would even have a chance at him.

Can't say I've seen anything from Thabeet that's impressed me. Aside from surviving DeJuan Blair mauling him in college, that is.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that Thabeet will someday be better than Ian "the Savior" Mahinmi.

#2 drafts in general tend to fall into mediocrity which is weird

I would never sign a guy just because he plays at center. It's pointless. Houston kept signing a crippled center, but they waive this guy? No thanks.

If Thabeet were to be cut, he'd still be a shitty player.....

im pretty desperate to see a big man signing, im starting to not care who it is, what the heck, sign that lowsy baller

Literally the ONLY value that Thabeet would have on a roster would be as a designated defender of the in-bounds passer in end-of-game situations. The 'Showtime' Lakers of the 1980's did that with a roster spot for Chuck Nevitt.

Last saturday, I was looking for a christmas gift for my son.
That firemen truck was up there at the top shelves... Impossible to grab...

Thabeet could have helped... well, not really... I found a stepladder.

Just a taller Mahinmi. His use is 6 fouls

Say what you want, but in a moment where we're desperate for athletic bigs who can block shots, run and possibly rebound, the likes of a K. Brown and, to a lesser extension, a Thabeet (who, that's for sure, is a good runner and shot blocker) looks like decent acquisitions...
We're not going to take players a lot better than them, in any case.
And, talking about phisical specimens, we're talking about an (also in some years ago) ex absolute 1sth choice and an (not so many years ago) ex absolute 2nd draft choice.

At this point, if they're available, I would't mind take them both, one for immediate contribution (K. Brown) via free agency (3 millions for some years ?), the other via trade using the Dice (already retired?) contract...for the mere chance of a decent, furture, development...and actually for specific defensive situations.

I'd rather have Frankie Elson back than this piece. Srsly.
