It was just after the lockout ended.

News had leaked that the Spurs were prepared to use the amnesty on Jefferson, but they needed to sign a SF. Caron Butler was their first choice, but he wound up taking more money to sign with the Clippers. A couple of other possibilities failed to come through and the Spurs kept RJ.
