View Full Version : Mavs trying to trade Brewer & Fernandez

Pros - opens cap space, gives them a better shot at landing a guy like Dalembert, especially if they do a SnT with Barea.
Cons - trading Jordan Hamilton for Rudy seems pretty damn stupid now if Rudy doesn't even end up playing for the Mavs, and with these reports of them trying to trade him, and considering how mentally fragile he is, he probably won't play for them.

Good move for Dallas, tbh. Odom and Rudy in the same team is a disaster. These are two huge mental midgets.

Wait, what?!
Why would you sign with Minny and they have rubio, Flynn and god knows who else at PG?

As for Dallas Cuban and Nelson are making shrewd moves.
Sure, the Lakers got screwed by Stern ...I just dont see where this is going for us.

not sure what the mavs are trying to put together here.. they signed former Michigan State PG Drew Neitzel last night and resigned cardinal to the vet minimum

we have NO ONE on our roster that can cover either Dirk (few do) who ironicaly LO wa sthe only guy on our team who stood a chance ...and Now Odom will kill us as well ...

Drew Neitzel is not bad either ...like I said Mavs are playing things well ...Me persona;lly I make a run with the core ...but if that was not feasible getting Odom and Dalembert (if they do) is pretty shrewd ...

They finally find someone (Chandler) to free Nowitski up to do his thing and they let him walk away. Then they follow that up by letting Barea walk away.
Explain how that is shrewd.

well they have terry and kidd off the books after this season so i assume they are just clearing cap space and will make a big run at deron williams and it seems hes interested..
via mark stein..
RT @Lockedonsports: Deron Williams today on free agency and going to Dallas "I always thought about it when I was in Utah."

That was taken out of context. I couldn't find the whole interview just now, but don't look too much into that quote.

Cully. You and I are shoulder to shoulder in the belief that they should of brought back the crew to properly defend that title. but since they did not their Plan "B" (or I guess A since they never really did try and keep the core) looks pretty good so far. Not a fan of Carter at this stage of his career but adding Odom to Dirk helps on defense and provides two extremely difficult covers on offense. Plus they only gave up trade/draft considerations ...shrewd.

I hope they can get someone like Dalembert, but if they don't, oh well, I still think they have a good enough squad to win the West. Their interior defense may have suffered some by losing Chandler (although Haywood is no slouch at all), but their ability to defend specific individuals has definitely improved with the addition of Odom.
Also, having no scoring threat when Dirk went out of the game was arguably the Mavs biggest weakness last year. That is no longer a major issue, with Odom, Terry and Carter.
For the Mavs to repeat, they need at least one of the following 2 things:
1. An additional legit center added to the squad, such as Dalembert (or if Mahinmi somehow makes an unexpected leap in his growth, that MIGHT be enough)
2. Roddy B. He is the Mavs best penetrating scorer at this point, and if he can bring consistent penetration like he did his rookie year, along with decent desicion making, the Mavs can overcome some of their other weaknesses.

He'd better sign it. He was talking out of school about Cuban something fearsome.

I'm not going to discuss Carter anymore. It's beneath me.

Otherwise, Chandler was the catalyst for the title. They'd already tried umpteen years with umpteen sidekicks for Dirk. He was it. Chandler was everything they wanted and needed and they let him get away. You don't walk away from that kind of mistake.

Mavs still have the ingredients to make a run... but I think the favorite in the West is the Thunder right now. Their youth benefits them with this cramped schedule and plus a lot of their core players will only improve.
I know we tapped that ass last year, but that was last year.

The Thunder (KD and Westbrook in particular) will average about 10 points less per game this season, due to the rule changes on "swing-through" and "continuation" shooting fouls.

Brewer only impressed in his limited PT last season. Was hoping to see if he could carve out a role this year.

Some people speculate that its possible Brewer and Fernandez will be traded for Jermaine O'Neal.
Apparently Danny Ainge has wanted to aquire both players for some time now, and Jermaine O'Neal has been involved in trade talks already, and was supposed to have been traded to the Mavs after the Hornets and Celtics completed an SnT for David West (which fell through).
I would definitely take this trade in a heartbeat, since its looking like Brewer and Fernandez won't get much if any PT anyways, I believe O'Neal expires next year, and the Mavs need some depth at C. He didn't play much last year, but he showed he can still clog the lane, hit the open jumper, block shots, and play solid defense. Don't overlook that in the playoffs, he started every game for the Celtics, and performed quite well.

Well the logic is to get the full MLE back I think, but with the new CBA not all the rules are clear to me.
Anyway, surely trading these two means the Mavs are trying to make one other move which is most likely for another Center.

Surely he will return to Spain next year because he signed 3 years with Real Madrid after june 2012

I am of the belief that the Mavs are trying to get Howard. Not exactly clear on how good of a shot they have but from what I'm hearing, its better than most think.

Sweet, then the Celtics wouldn't have a single natural C on our roster. :lol And Jermaine O'Neal was great for us in the playoffs, really led a lot of Bostonians to root for him.

because dbestpro is a dumbfuck who overreaches for things to try and sound ultra-intelligent
that's why chemistry might be a problem
