George Karl says Ginobili, Ben Wallace are NBA’s Tebows

In Denver, it is all Tim Tebow all the time. The entire NBA seems that way lately (which is better than the all Brett Favre all the time era, I guess).

So at media day we should have known that Denver coach George Karl would get a Tebow question — who is the Tim Tebow of the NBA?

But this was a pretty thoughtful answer, from the Denver Post (via SLAM).

“With the will to win, Manu Ginobili is the type of guy, he has this exuberance of – we’re going to win the (darn) game with effort, passion and commitment. He’s the first guy that came to mind.

“A guy who wins it on his heart more than his skills – Ben Wallace. He was an undersized, defensive player who can’t score, but won a championship.”

I might throw Joakim Noah out there — Florida guy who nobody was quite sure how his game would blend in the NBA, but he’s worked out pretty well so far.

Karl’s answer doesn’t touch on the religious aspect of Tebow, which is part of why he has been in the spotlight. There are no shortage of religious NBA players — Dwight Howard, Warriors coach Mark Jackson are probably the best known — but no NBA player’s persona is tied to religion like Tebow’s.

If Tebow can up with a Manu like career, that’s not bad. Not bad at all.

I'm just glad Mark Jackson was mentioned as being religious instead of that guy in New Jersey.

Give Manu a couple hours to practice and I'm positive he could throw a better spiral than Tim Tebow.

Alright... to a person who knows nothing about the NFL, that can lead you to believe Tebow is a future HOFer. Just because Manu has the passion/will/determination to win doesn't mean he lacks many crucial skills required of his position. Additionally, unlike Tebow, Manu actually contributes on the defensive side of the game. Obviously, Tebow's teammates' defense wins him games.

Take it back, George!

They are opposites in regards to religion.

What is Manu's religion - or lack there of? Has he ever been open about it?

Hes comparing their competitive nature and just simply being winners tbh, which is something they definitely share. I was gonna make a similar thread asking who was the bigger winner in the NFL forum a couple days ago :lol

Obviously Manu is a much more complete basketball player at this point in his career than Tebow is a football player though.

?...??

The bizarre, twisted "logic" that appears on these forums (on a fairly regular basis) sometimes makes me wonder how our species has been able to survive this long.

"Cows are like cars, because they both have horns... so that means cars must give milk." I know if I started that thread, there would actually be people arguing both sides.

The only thing I got from that little article is how ironic it is that Karl could say something complimentary of Manu, after all the nasty things he's said about him over the years.

And BTW, shortbus - all DPG was saying is that these guys claim they get paid so much money because they are really entertainers, and not just guys who can but a ball in a ring. Well, if you're an entertainer, it's usually not smart to alienate a large portion of your audience. They can't have it both ways.

I understood that special-ed, however i feel that his personal views should be expressed if that's what he believes.

Manu is a leader, not a follower and his audience should be open-minded in a way that they are not alienated by such comments... And if they are, fuck 'em - then they're fans not worth having.

Those things were all said out of pure asshurtness after being dominated in playoffs.
