List time! I'm not going to pretend I listened to everything out there, but these were my favorites of the year.

Wilco - The Whole Love
Real Estate - Days
Decemberists - The King is Dead
REM - Collapse Into Now
Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Book of Mormon sountrack

Need a few more listens: Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire, St. Vincent - Strange Mercy

Wanted to love, but can't get past the hardcore vocals: Fucked Up - David Comes to Life

Haven't heard their latest yet, but want to: Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Black Keys

Disappointment: King of Limbs

Token hip-hop album that I'm not going to pretend was one of my favorites just to add diversity to my list, but thought was okay: Watch the Throne

Really didn't get to listen to many albums this year.

Favorites were Let England Shake, Burst Apart and James Blake s/t

I think one of the only 2011 albums I listened to was Bad as Me by Tom Waits, and I liked it quite a bit.

Watch the Throne was okay, but mostly for the production. Jay-Z's verses are pretty much crap and only a few of Kanye's are actually good. Even though it was only an EP, I thought Hell: The Sequel was a much better RAP album lyrically, and some of the tracks are just as awesome to listen to with a good sound system as Watch the Throne.

King of Limbs is the only thing that immediately comes to mind, Watch the Throne and Atlas Sound "Parallax" were the only other records that peaked my radar.

Real Estate "Days" disappointed me because I felt like I heard it all before on the EP, still good tho.

Agreed.

2009 was better, though.

2009 rivals 2007 for the best in a while, too.

On "99 Problems" Jay-Z raps, "if you havin girl problems, I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one."

I really thought he should have said, "If you havin girl trouble..."
And avoide the redundency of the word "problems"

Listing the albums I have heard multiple times from best to worst:

Steven Wilson - Grace for Drowning
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Wilco - The Whole Love
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Bon Iver - Bon Iver
Radiohead - The King of Limbs
The Antlers - Burst Apart

Albums I haven't listened to enough:
Tom Waits - Bad as Me
Bjork - Biophilia (pretty underwhelming after one listen)
CunninLynguists - Oneirology (will probably get higher after more listens)
Gang Gang Dance - Eye Contact (can't really remember much about this one)
Atlas Sound - Parallax

On a side note, fuck last.fm for making me lose hundreds of scrobbles.

oh crap
12-14-2011, 04:24 PM
forgot about that cunninlynguists album, that is a quality album for sure.

don't know why this came up but did anyone else listen to Lulu? I had a morbid curiosity to check it out after hearing just how awful it was.

That album is pure comedy gold. The best way to listen to it is to close your eyes, imagine being at a normal Metallica concert, then outta nowhere a drunk old man comes onstage (it's even funnier if you imagine someone other than Lou Reed), grabs a microphone, and rambles a bunch of incoherent nonsense. Instead of anyone kicking him offstage, Metallica just kind of uncomfortably keeps playing. Also imagine James Hetfield tentatively trying to stick his face near the microphone to sing while the drunk old man keeps rambling. Seriously, I died laughing when I listened to it.

Comedy album of the year without a doubt.

Just better music.

Never be a time like the 90's though.

The new Roots album is great. Enjoyed both Kanye albums. Probably Watch The Trhone a bit more than his solo work (BECAUSE ITS PROVACATIVE).

However, after a few listens, El Camino is the best for me.

I could actually listen to Top 40 radio at the time or the weekly countdown and hear plenty of good stuff. Today, not so much.

slim pickings....

what happened to great bands?

No one out there seems compelling anymore...I mean are there any acts that you would spend your hard-earned dollars on? To buy their CD's? To see live?

I can't think of any current acts that fit the bill....pretty fuckin' sad....
