The recent spate of insurgent violence has been timed to coincide with the lead up to the American elections. The insurgents hope they can keep up, even increase, the level of violence until election day -- it's a gamble at best, a last ditch desperate act at worst (for them, that is). If, on the other hand, the coalition is able to pinpoint their bases of operation, eliminate their command and control structure, and severely curtail the level of violence prior to November 2, it will have all been for naught. Not that I think they ever stood a chance of swaying an election in 60 days to begin with. President candidate John Forbes Kerry has been shooting himself in the foot for a few months now. The terrorist's candidate has all but lost the fight anyway.

And now, here's some good news about Iraq...that's right, about 2/3 of the country are living in relative peace and prosperity. You won't hear that on CBS.

All the good things they never tell you about today's Iraq (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml;sessionid=HEWGWI3QMDRPHQFIQMGSM54AVCBQW JVC?xml=/opinion/2004/09/19/do1902.xml&secureRefresh=true&_requestid=14035)
