View Full Version : Cory Joseph: Donde Esta?
The Truth #6
12-14-2011, 03:13 PM
I was reading that our first round draft pick Cory Joseph hasn't shown up to camp...because of immigration issues. He's from Canada and was in the US playing college ball last year, so that seems surprising.
Is he even under contract? A quick google search didn't give me an answer.
Does anyone know if the Spurs are lowballing him on a contract and that's why he hasn't arrived yet?

Remind me to teach you how to use Google the next time I see your sorry ass.
With a contract now tendered, but not signed, Joseph made the application last week. But with government offices closed over the weekend, the waiting has continued.
Joseph has been in San Antonio all week, but will have to return to Canada to receive the visa before returning to San Antonio for camp.

Who knew the DREAM Act would've helped the Spurs this season . . .

If this is your most recent news, from December 11, then I'm curious why the contract still isn't signed, but whatever. Thanks. Next time I need some more office work done I'll give you a holler.

I think Cory Joseph's DREAM Act application went off the rails when he elected to leave UT after his freshman year.
What would disqualify me from the DREAM Act (http://dreamact.info/faq/1#1n5252)?
If you do not meet the initial requirements, you are not eligible to apply. If you do meet those requirements, apply, get approved but fail to complete 2 years of college or 2 years in the military, etc. the following applies:
An individual will be disqualified and stripped of the Conditional Permanent Residency if the individual has left the United States for long periods of time (365 days in the aggregate), has not completed the 2 years of college or military service in the 6 allotted years, has become a public charge or has received a dishonorable discharge from the military.
If an individual is disqualified by committing one or more of the items stated above, he or she will return to the previous level of status he or she had prior to receiving conditional permanent residency. For many it would mean returning to undocumented status and would again be subject to deportation.

I remember December 11th like it was just a couple of days ago, but have no doubt that something extremely intriguing/nefarious/worthy-of-its-own-thread is going on with the contract. Anyway, you're welcome. I'll send you a schedule of my rates in a PM.

Easy, Andy Rooney. Save your anger for those melons. The Spurs have a history of lowballing their surprise first round draft picks. Just curious if his delay was in part because of a contract negotiation. It's a legitimate question.

:lol thanks for the three day old news story. I believe the whole point is that there's still no update. The weekend was quite a long time ago.

Oh, I hope they are low-balling him, as they probably could've picked him out of the scrap heap after the draft was over rather than drafting him at 29. FWIW, his agent appears to be Leon Rose, who may be preoccupied with Chris Paul, Rip and Stuckey at the moment.

Yes, that was the point, but if you have something more current, I'd be thrilled to see it. In its absence, the ancient news story is as true today as it was on Sunday.

Someone asked if anyone had any additional information. A simple "no" would have sufficed from you.

Far be it from me not to appreciate someone sticking up for manners. You're noble to do it. Honestly. However...
1. The "Truth" and I have known each other since high school and I have no doubt that the tone part that doesn't come through for you isn't lost on him.
2. Not to get picky here, but there actually is some information in the old news that he didn't seem to be aware of (including the "tendered but not signed" bit and the "back and forth from SA" bit).

Maybe Pop's planning on picking up a really old, really crappy backup point guard and he's going to use the visa issues as an excuse to never work CJ into the lineup. Wasn't there a "not fair to the other players" line he used once?

Oh...umm...hey, Cory. I hope you don't...I didn't mean...well, this is a little awkward. :oops
To paraphrase Rick Perry, if you don't think Cory Joseph should be on the Spurs this year, you don't have a heart.
