just a reminder:

2 months ago I said Team USA would not even make the Gold-Medal round.....and everyone said I was full of it. The Games haven't even started yet but I'm sticking to my prediction....and I'll bet resistance is much smaller now!

Bold statement. If you are correct, you should get props for it...my question to you is, will you be in here posting accordingly if you are incorrect?

how could you have "told us so" that the US wont win gold when the games havent even started yet?
:Q

that's kind of like when rascal said during the playoffs that the Spurs had not done well in elimination games...when they had not yet played one! :shootme

Yes - I'll be around regardless....

"I told you so" refers to the swing in popular opinion. Now, it is not a bold prediction at all to predict they will not win the gold.

I actually made my prediction back in 2003. No matter who plays (I would make an exception for Shaq because, since there is no 3-second rule, he would be unstoppable), I don't think the USA Players have the mentality to dominate or even compete with the other elite teams.

Until they have a real "Team," they will always struggle to win and may never win the Gold. The problem is, US players are worshipped from 6th grade on and they don't learn how to play the right way.....in some cases....ever.

Herdbehavior

actually....since I am tooting my own horn now....I predicted they would lose in 2002. Even I was shocked though when they lost 3 straight!

So I guess you predicted they would lose to Argentina in the PR Olympic qulaifiers too then.

Herdmentality,

Maybe you should not tell us anything else...US just pounded the Serb team. They are the world champs if I'm not mistaken. Just think, if you would have kept your trap shut and waited until the US was eliminated, you would have made yourself look gooood. Now, since you prematurely blessed us with your prediction, oh Nostradamus, everybody will be calling you out when the US kicks ass and wins the gold.

Herdbehavior

It's not like I want our guys to lose.....I just call it like I see it. The Serbia win might be fools-gold. Did Vlade or Balkee (aka - Peja) play?

What about the Turkey game?

If the US wins....I'll be the first to admit I was off....and I'll be glad.

Nevertheless....the fundamental flaw will still be there.

Blohawk:

"Herdmentality" + "keep your trap shut"

1. How is "herdmentality" a cut-down?
2. The 1950s called.....they want their expression back.

If the US loses it will likley as not be because some Euro-ref sticks a couple of cheap fouls on Duncan during a knock out round game taking him out of the contest. That's the biggest fundamental flaw.

The USA is definitely the favorite. However, they can be beaten if their opponent gets red-hot from 3-pt land like Italy. I don't see it happening though if the USA keeps improving on defense at their current pace.

Herdbehavior

what was that......all I hear are the crickets chirmping.

Herdbehavior

that's a tough choice!

I think the paradigm has shifted.

The SI article with "2 ways to fix it" is very good.

Take the NBA out of it.

Have a full-time coach (at least a 4-yr contract) and get a team of players that will commit for the the long-term.

I suggest that the NBA and FIFA come together and both make rule changes to create closer systems.

For instance, I like the shorter 3-line in FIBA. I like 10min quarters. I like the Global system that would allow inter-League play.

For the NBA, I like defensive 3-seconds. I like the no-charge circle. I like 3 refs.

thanks - I didn't want to be right.

Actually - I bet somebody lunch before the Olympics that they would not medal. I'm glad they came away with something though.

They beat both the teams that won their brackets (Spain + Lithunania). That's something.
