View Full Version : Spurs Fan Nut Check

SPARKY

If you've given up on the team, leave already. This is not to say that everything has been rosy the last couple of games because it hasn't been. There is plenty to discuss and criticize.

But if you are giving up after tonight then be gone. There's no room for you at the inn.

I don't think anyone's giving up on this. The ones we need to worry about are the ones that were out on the court tonight.

I think San Antonio will benefit from the extra day off. Especially Parker and Ginobili.

06-16-2005, 11:30 PM
2 losses are 2 losses. That's it...

This Spurs team showed more heart than last years team all season long...remember the double OT wins...

These losses would be easier for me to take if I could blame them on Pop...but he's not responsible for every mofo on the team making mutiple TO's.

One thing I am certain of...the Pistons are beating us...but the Spurs are giving them a lot of help. It'd be nice if they stopped doing that for a game or so.

I still think San Antonio in 6. They just need to pick the defensive intensity that was missing in this game and get steals for easy baskets. That is what won them the first 2 games and 2 days off will help.

In the last three years the Spurs were 2-2 against:

Phoenix (03) -W
LA(03) - W
NJ(03) - W
LA(04) -L
SEA (05) -W

If we can overcome the poor reffing, or may utilize it by become more physical ourselves, we have a chance to win this one too.

Us diehard fans were fans of this team back when they just plain sucked...no way we bail on them now.

When we won the Championship in '03, NJ won games 3 & 4 after going down 0-2 in SA...then we won the last game in NJ and the title at home in the sixth game.

It's just tied, we're not down, and we're not out. I wanted to win at home, so that meant losing two there. Now granted I didn't want to lose that bad but oh well. We are going to win this thing and to hell with anyone who doesn't think we will.

I have learned with the Spurs that it's never over til it's over. I expect them to win the series. But even if they don't, I'm still always a Spurs fan. I'm proud of what they've accomplished and I still think a river parade sounds like a good idea no matter what!

Fuck that!

Spurs in six.

SpurYank
06-17-2005, 09:23 AM
No, I'm not giving up on them, either. Like a lot of you, I'm a little perturbed at announcers calling Rasheed's whack on the arm " a beautiful steal." On the other hand, I saw a very slow Tim Duncan run back on defense, only to see Ben Wallace lay the ball-in in front of him. I'm also a little perturbed the Spurs aren't listening to Horry's comments that in the playoffs every game is like the seventh game. That was obvious by seeing put backs and offensive rebounds by Pistons in front of a flat-footed Timmy, Nazr, Rasho, Bruce, etc. Then, too, it looks easy from my living room sofa.

I trust that Pop, PJ and the Spurs will strategize and come up with a win on Sunday. Manu may have hit the nail right on the head when he said during the post game interviews that the remedy wasn't better xs and Os, but energy and effort.

If we win Sunday, the Pistons will have an impossible task, taking two in S.A. not to mention a lot of pressure, given the results of games 1 and 2. Then, too, our fans are much less threatening to opposing players then the Piston fans are. The Washington Post said Timmy took a lot of verbal abuse as he sat during the last 5 minutes of the game. Hopefully, that will motivate him to really have a great game. The article added that NBA Finals veterans think the great players get better on the opposition's home court. Regular or good players are intimidated and are unable to perform to their best. The other thing I hear from sportscasters this morning is that the great teams note how the game is being called and make the necessary adjustments. The Pistons failed to do that in S.A. The Spurs have failed to do that in Detroit. When Wallace beat Duncan to our basket, Tim was looking back at an official trying to complain about a no-call. If he wanted to stop playing, he should have called a time-out.

The Pistons only had 3 turnovers, to our 17. Not sure we can call ourselves world champs playing like that.

Some of you have mentioned about how long you've been Spurs fans. I was there in S.A. in 1973 (in the AF) when they stopped being the Dallas Chapparrals and came down with Silas, Kobi, Goo Kennedy, and all. The old Arena was VERY threatening to opposing players then, as Larry Bird and Larry Brown will verify.

No need to worry (even though I am a bit), remind yourself that the series is tied 2-2, and the Spurs STILL have homecourt advantage. It's a best of three.
I would be worried if the Spurs played normal ball and got waxed like that, but clearly, the Spurs were terrible the last two games. On the other hand, Detroit was terrible the first two games. I would like to see a game, at least, where both sides just go out and play, and play at the top of their games. That would be a quite a game.

I couldn't resist any longer. I used to post a lot in the older forums but pretty much enjoyed reading and taking the pulse of the same type of enthusiasts and fanatics.

But I feel the need!

Wipe the slate clean and lets start over. Not too many teams get that opportunity. It could be worse if we would have dropped any at home and be lookin at 3-1 with the closeout still on their home floor. IMO game 5 winner has the foot on the throat and probably will close in 6.

Its all on the line..................................

KICK THEIR ASS FOR FATHERS DAY!!!!!

I think Manu summed it up pretty well last night when he said that the Pistons just wanted it more than we did.

And if they continue to want it more, they deserve to win it.

But, in my heart, I just can't believe that's true. The Spurs have played with tremendous heart this year - and this is a fantastic team. I can't believe they're just going to lay down and give it up.

I'm no basketball expert like a lot of you guys are - I'm just your average Spurs fan who believes that there's no one in the league any better than we are, no matter what it looks like right now. I believe in these guys.

So I stand by my first prediction: Spurs in 6!
