Come here to put your reputation on the line for season predictions. Whatever you wish to declare. Its not limited to before the season starts either. Let's see how insightful and knowledgable some you Spurstalkians... Spurstalkites?... Spurstalkerers?... bastards (thats better) are.

I'll start...

1. The Lakers will not win the West. They will still get torched by the quicker PG's, Gasol is still a bitch, Bynum is still injury prone, and I don't like the Lakers depth for this year. They have some nice young talent in a few players but this won't be the year they shine. Plus, new coach, new system. I think OKC matches up well with them and are deeper. Although there is potential for OKC to be the next gen of mental midgets based off of what I saw in the WCF last year. I also think the Mavs are better than the Lakers.

2. I think Chris Paul wins the MVP if he can remain healthy. Although I think Derrick Rose will make a strong run at it for a second year. I know some people think the MVP is for the best player on the best team, but I don't think that should be the case and won't be the case this year.

3. Not going out on a limb much here but just to get it on the record, Miami wins the East. I'm curious to see what Chalmers will do as the starter there now and what LeBron will do with his post game that he has been working on with Hakeem Olajuwon.

4. As much as I hate to see it go down, I think Dwight Howard will get traded to New Jersey.

5. My 8 WC playoff teams in no particular order

Clippers
Lakers
Mavs
Grizz
Spurs
Nuggz
Thunder Boom
Blazers

6. My 8 EC playoff teams in no particular order

Celtics
Knicks
76ers
Bulls
Pacers
Hawks
Heat
Magic (subject to change with possible trade of Dwight Howard)

I guess thats all for now. Lets get yours on the record.

The New York Knicks will be in the Finals this year. I'm assuming Baron Davis can get back to (relatively) full health, and in the playoffs, you'll be looking at a Baron Davis/Landry Fields/Carmelo Anthony/Amare Stoudamire/Tyson Chandler lineup. VBM ain't gonna be wrong bout dem Knicks.

January 19, 2012. This will be the day that Lakers fans go absolutely ape shit. Because not only will they lose to Chicago on Christmas, this will be the day that the Lakers will have a 3 game losing streak to 3 good teams in a row.

Jan 14 @ Clippers
Jan 16 Dallas
Jan 19 @ Miami

Mass suicide in Laker nation will ensue. The very foundation of Laker infrastructure will crumble into dust. Riots in the streets of LA. Laker babies everywhere will cry. The Laker Girls will eat themselves into a diabetic coma. Giuseppe, Kool, and Luva will absolutely lose it!!!

The only thing that will save them?

Jumping ship to the Clippers. (Get it? Jumping ship? To the Clippers? Ha Ha I slay me.)
Chris Paul will save you amidst all of the chaos. A new era will dawn. The era of The Clip Show

The Mavs have always been an above average defensive team under Carlisle they just needed that final piece to the puzzle which turned out to be Tyson.

The Knicks are a bad defensive team who outside of Anthony and Stoudemire have no real legit big time players.

I love the over-reaction to an pre-season (though impressive) performance.

I reserve the right to change this once I see some games but pre-seasosn I will say these are my playoff teams (in loose order):

1. OKC
2. Dallas
3. Lakers
4. San Antonio
5. Clippers
6. Memphis
7. Portland
8. Denver/ROX/GSW/Minny/PHX/SAC/Utah will battle for this spot ...

Some other random thoughts ...
No I dont think Lakers will win West
No I dont think Paul will win MVP unless he can get a top 2 seed historiacally voters only vote for a player with at LEAST a top 2 record in conference and or top 4 record in NBA overall ... I dont think Clips get either just based off one pre-season game.
Heat are favorites in the east OKC in the west and because of that Durant and Lebron are the MVP favorites even if I think others may deserve it over Durant ...

That's why my prediction hinges on the health of Baron Davis. If he can be healthy come playoff time, he'll be motivated by the fact that he's playing for a contender.

As for Chandler, the fact that he adds a defensive post presence and allows Amare to play his more natural power forward role will be huge for New York.

Muser

If you're title hopes rest on Baron Davis then I don't think you'll get very far.

If you're title hopes rest on Baron Davis then I don't think you'll get very far.

They'll rest on Melo and Amare. Davis will be a the 3rd or 4th option (have to see how Landry Fields progresses). Combine that with how wide open the East is (I think it's Miami and Chicago, then Boston, NY and Orlando (if Howard stays) in that 2nd tier). I'm not saying NY should be the favorite in the east by any means. I'm simply saying that I think they could beat any given eastern team in a 7-game series if Davis stays healthy.

Again, based on recent data ... I don't know 30 years of data... The MVP has come from a team that is top 2 in in it's conference. Being that Clips are the little brothers ...I would be happy to see them get an MVP or a #2 seed, but I dont see either happening this year. Im not saying he is not capable of a Nash like season because there are some things about his game especially on defense ...that are superior to Nash's game. (I do think Nash is the better shooter though) and he won backtoback MVP's. I just dont think the Clips will have that kind of "record" so I think he can finish as high as 2 or 3 but he won't win.

I maybe wrong ... but I doubt it. But we shall see ...

Don't know if you're serious about Splitter or not.

I copy&pasted that from another prediction thread we had a while back. I guess at the time I was hoping he would get a lot more playing time then last year. Now with only 4 bigs I know he is going to get a lot of playing time. He's only in his second year(which means growth and keeps in the running for such award) and if we do well he will get recognized. I'll just stand pat with that prediction because now more than ever I believe it could happen.

imho NY is trapped under Miami and will never win the East. That and the fact that they have D'Antoni.

It's a shame because I've always been a huge Anthony fan but he'll probably go down as this era's Charles Barkley. Being trapped by LA in the West and the Heat in the East means he'll most likely retire ringless yet come close many times

Regular Season MVP: LBJ

Finals MVP: D. Wade

Well I predicted the EC Champs, the WC Champs, and the regular season MVP correctly so far. If the Heat win and Wade wins Finals MVP, I'll feel pretty lucky.

:lolMavs in WCF

The New York Knicks will be in the Finals this year. I'm assuming Baron Davis can get back to (relatively) full health, and in the playoffs, you'll be looking at a Baron Davis/Landry Fields/Carmelo Anthony/Amare Stoudamire/Tyson Chandler lineup. VBM ain't gonna be wrong bout dem Knicks.
