It's not as simple, bball is a team sport and the best all-time players always contribute in some way to the success of their teams. I'm quite sure that if the Spurs trade Duncan for another player with similar statistcs, the team would lose more games.

Keep in mind that despite putting only 13.5 ppg / 9 rpg, the Spurs were 61 - 21 last season. Pop changed the rotation few games before the end of the RS and Manu got injured in the meaningless last RS game, otherwise the Spurs could have advanced IMO to the WCF.

Deuce, not to say that Kobe isn't one of the most skilled players to ever play or that he wasn't athletic, he is/was that, but he also always had bellow average bball iq.

He had to defer to Shaq for the first rings. Shaq commanded similar attention to that pic of Kobe, with the difference that it would have been a dunk and 1. Shaq also passed the ball often in that situations.

Gasol / Bynum / Odom would get 10 rpg each - outrebounding every other team, make all types of miss matches with size, strenght and speed, plus they would score their points at around 1.5 pts/shot. Kobe would take most of the shots by far and make more points than Gasol, but he wasn't the true reason why the Lakers were so succesful.

The only time Kobe played really well in the finals was against the Magic, a team without an good wing defender. In the other 4 championships, the Lakers bigs contributed more than Kobe. When the Lakers failed to win, Kobe played terribly.

In the last Lakers championship, Fisher had to yell at Kobe in the game 7, because he was to shot the Lakers out. Basically World Peace and Gasol bailed out the Lakers.

The bigs were better than Kobe in the '08 and '10 finals? :lol uh ok
Kobe played well in the '02 finals (27/6/5/51%) and still averaged 29/8 in the '10 finals, bad % but still 29/8 is bad?
30-6-5 in '08 PO
30-5-6 in '09 PO
29-6-6 in '10 PO
Bynum in 08 PO - DNP any games, '09 PO - 6/4/46%, '10 PO - 9/7/54%
Odom in '08 PO - 14/10/49%, '09 PO - 12/9/52%, '10 PO - 10/9/47%
Gasol was great all around (except in '08 Finals)

and this whole "bailed out thing" it happens all the time, one player doesn't win a championship, Horry bailed out the entire spurs team in the '05 finals, it happens

Kobe and Jordan are the only players to ever average 30-5-5 in the playoffs and win finals MVP, to say that Kobe wasn't the best player on those teams is retarded
and how did LA make the Finals in '08 in the first place? Kobe averaged 32/6/6/52FG%/61TS% through the first 3 rounds

Kobe was always more dominant in the RS. When facing teams with elite wing defenders and good bigs covering the paint, it was a different story, though.

That being said, even when Kobe was at the top of his game, he struggled in making his team mates better. So he only has 1 mvp.

It's often said that Kobe had limited talent around him in those years, well it wasn't so bad really. Duncan (and Dirk) had won championship without other all-star players.

Even Shaq's Lakers teams had limited talent besides Kobe.

It was around 15 games. He missed around the same number of games in 00, 01 and 04. The triangle offense Phil run, gave open looks and higher fg%. He's also a great defensive coach.

He had Shaq to carry him those years.

Lol you say that only because Kobe doesn't measure up in that department. Kobe's very overrated you would expect a guy whose being billed as the greatest player of his generation to have more then 1 regular season MVP and just 2 finals mvps. Its hard for me to see how Kobe is even better then Dr. J if you take away the rings argument they both have only 1 regular season MVP while one has shot above 50 percent several times while the other has never shot above 45 percent.

Both are alltime greats and the media will put Kobe higher but the fact is Duncan's career is as good if not better.

PER is used by many to try to weigh the value of a player statistically, besides more MVPs and finals MVPs= Duncan of course top ten all time in PER while a plausibly overrated SG named Kobe is 17th. http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/per_career.html

Duncan 4th among active while Kobe trails: LeBron, Wade, Paul, Duncan, and Dirk
1. Michael Jordan* 27.91
2. LeBron James 26.94
3. Shaquille O'Neal 26.43
4. David Robinson* 26.18
5. Wilt Chamberlain* 26.13
6. Dwyane Wade 25.65
7. Bob Pettit* 25.35
8. Chris Paul 25.23
9. Tim Duncan 24.84
10. Neil Johnston* 24.63
11. Charles Barkley* 24.63
12. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 24.58
13. Magic Johnson* 24.11
14. Karl Malone* 23.90
15. Dirk Nowitzki 23.73
16. Hakeem Olajuwon* 23.59
17. Kobe Bryant 23.53
18. Larry Bird* 23.50
19. Kevin Garnett 23.43

As PER also shows Shaq not Kobe was the prime reason for LALs three titles in a row and even with Gasol (28th all time) aside him Kobe could not deliver without Shaq to a similar extent. Kobe has also lost finals - Duncan has never lost a finals.

:lol You have gotta be one of the most retarded posters out there. Where do I start Shaq still beats out Nash in total MVPs regular season and finals MVP's 4-2 so thats an epic fail. In this thread you have compared Duncan to Kobe so of course I'm going to bring up their FG percentage since its a comparison. I have had this argument with you before but its a fact that dominant bigmen are always more valuable then a perimeter player unless its MJ.

One thing as Kobetard you should wonder why hasn't Kobe ever shot above 50 percent in his whole entire career that the best he's shot is 46 percent while all time great perimeter players like Dr.J,Bird, shot above 50 percent several times in their careers. I will even mention second tier greats such as Drexler, Reggie Miller, Gervin managed to shoot above 50 percent a few times through out their career. Even his contemporaries Wade,Lebron have reached that percentage. For Kobe to not be able to achieve this feat shows me he has low bball IQ. That was apparent in the final seconds of the bulls game yesterday when he tried jacking up a shot on 3 defenders in the paint instead of looking around for other options.
