I'm definitely not speaking for Spursfans as a whole, but I'm really excited about this guy. I'm actually surprised and happy about the 15 minutes POP gave him. He definitely wasn't perfect, but he picked up on the boards when it seemed no one else was getting any (Bonner), and he defended pretty fucking well against a forward that one shouldn't shrug his shoulder at. Scoring-wise, I think he'll pick it up. The guy could be our new BRUCE!

No-one agrees that he can fill Bruce's role??

I mean, there will never be another Bruce Bowen, but I think he provides the exterior defense that has been lacking with RJ. The guy has the length and definitely the potential to be a scary defensive threat. Thoughts?

Can he fill the role? Sure, he can (and will) try.

Can he do it as admirably as one of the best defenders of the last decade? Let's give him more than one game before we start calling those shots.

Not only was Bruce perennial All-Defense, he was clutch with that corner three. Leonard has a long way to go before his shot is that pure.

Agreed... I don't mean to overhype the guy, but god damn, he has the reach of Conan the Barbarian, awesome rebounding skills, and athleticism that the almighty Bruce didn't have.

It's too early to know, but I'm really hoping the guy proves himself.

I am a fan of the team, don't know anything about the guy. I hope he does well, but I won't say I am in his fan club when he's played one game.

He looks more like Gerald Wallace.

I hope he continues to develop, but he's going to have to be something really special to be Bruce Bowen. It's an insult to compare them at this point, but hope springs eternal.

Kid looks good in his first live NBA game. Defense is the spurs MO when they were winning, and hopefully reviving the team's overall defense can put them back in their winning ways in the playoffs.

Where can i sign for the James Anderson fan club? JA is looking locked and loaded on the 1st game of the season. Hopefully, guys' energy levels will remain high.

@Pop, if Bonner can't hit the three, just take him out of the game, goodness!

In. He is no Bruce, but I like the idea that someone wants to have as much defensive impact as Bowen. Leonard is only 20, so hat's off to him showing this much presence already.

I hope KL does great things, we need it. Right now he's done nothing. His story is cookie cutter for a ton of black professional athletes. I cannot jump on his bandwagon just because he has a story.

I still support the guy though, don't get wrong.

I've been a fan since he showed at Montezuma Mesa here in San Diego, CA.

He was CalHiSports Mr. Basketball State of California when he played at Riverside King High School.

You guys need a little history about what type of guy Kawhi is?

I absolutely love his hustle in Game 1. He was going for every board and lose ball like a bat out of hell. His confidence seems like its through the roof as well, even if his touch didn't deserve it.

Ill post here to avoid making a new thread about him.

Not to be negative or anything but I dont understand all the excitement over this guy. I get that he has all the physical tools, like length and athleticism, to turn into a solid defensive player. But thats no guarantee and even if he developes as planned that will take some time, definitely dont see him turning into a lockdown defender his rookie yr.

Offensively, I know me and the great leader timvp arent the only ones that see how awkward this nlgga looks on that side of the ball. His shot has poor form and his handles are suspect. I much like the great leader have my doubts about this dude being able to develop a solid offensive game.

Hopefully I end up being wrong but Im a bit skeptical about this nlgga :(

I am a SDSU fan and saw him play a lot (almost every home game) in college. He is the perfect fit for the Spurs, a humble kid with a nose for the ball who will defend, hustle and not complain.

He is going to be a much better player than George Hill in my opinion, maybe not as a scorer but everything else. And he won't be texting photos of his junk around either.

8 rebounds in 20 minutes off the bench vs the Clippers. Been a long time since we've had a SF rebound that well. Especially a 2nd game SF. That's a damn good sign :-)

But that's not to say that Dennis Rodman couldn't be very offensive.

Even if he misses some rotations he has a good activity level on the defensive end. Some players just watch the ball but he seems to keep active and anticipate.

Now that I think about it Leonard and Bonner could help each other and toghether be useful for the Spurs.

Leonard helps the team make up for Bonner's lack of rebounding and inside presence and on offense you can have Bonner outside (drawing out an opossing bigman) while Leonard can be flying around crashing the offensive boards and cutting to the basket.
