Wireless N Router Suggestions

I'm gonna replace my steaming pile of shit Asus router (http://www.asus.com/Networks/Wireless_Routers/RTN13/), which has shitty connectivity/range with DD-WRT and is unusable with stock firmware. Any suggestions are welcome.

Also, I've been out of the router game for a while so can someone quickly fill me in on the real advantages of a dual-band router? Is interference less and reception generally better?

Ill keep an eye on this one - how is the range? I've been looking at a couple of routers.

I had the netgear 3700 and it crapped out on me after a year. Replaced it with the cisco 4200 and it has been working well for us.

Also, both 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz signals are being broadcast simultaneously, right? Do I have to do anything or will my devices automatically choose which to connect to (they have same SSID)?

Turns out shopping for a decent Wireless is not so easy afterall.

I recently bought a 600N Belkin and that thing fucking sucks. Worked amazing the first two days then it just wouldn't connect.

Went right back to Best Buy to get my money back.

I'm currently looking for a good Wireless Router, preferably a linksys.

Is it just me or has the people who make linksys routers become lazy fucks? I mean the design of the router leaves alot to be desire. Those fuckers look like scanners. :lol

Buy anything that can run DD-WRT or Tomato. I got an Asus RT-N16 about 3-4 months ago and haven't had to reset or power cycle once after I put tomato on and bumped up the wireless power on it. It's a rock and can handle me d/l binaries off usenet at 3M down on my pc while working on my mac.

Everything was smooth for a while, until the ASUS router I was using as a repeater starting to act weird. Some devices (phone, tablets, laptops) wouldn't connect when in the area of the repeater. Unplugged for now.

With regards to the wireless router I current use (Cisco Linksys E3200), it has been mostly rock solid with the exception of a period when it was wonky at times. Connection strength would be at 200 Mbps then drop to 6 Mbps for no reason. Had to power cycle a bit. However, it's been great lately, with grea tsignal strength. Regardless, I'm going to install DD-WRT firmware when I have time.

For $70? Might be hard to get a decent N wireless router at that price point (probably not better than the one you returned). Well actually you might be able to get the E300 for 70-80 right now.

It was my own fault really. I didn't do any research. After looking for a linksys and they not having it on stock I just grabbed the first one I saw. smh

I've recently bought a Netgear N900. I'm very happy with the speed and range. Makes any printer an air printer for ios devices and DD-WRT for it is also coming.

Yeah I remember that article too. I think they mostly chickened out due to the backlash. But if you're on DD-WRT, it's a moot point anyways.

They did chicken out, but they can re-instate it whenever they want with a remote "upgrade" and I believe that the firmware without the web monitoring has also less features. And of course DD-WRT is not available for the Cisco routers with this issue.
