I'm looking at getting a new phone. I don't like the Iphone, but I've been looking at some Samsung models. Anyone here using a Samsung, if so which model did you choose?

I have the Galaxy s2. Almost the same with the other android phones. Only reason why I chose the samsung galaxy s2 is because I think it has the most beautiful screen right now.

It's a fact--the Galaxy phones have the best screen, a super AMOLED. I'm a photographer and like to carry my DSLR photos around with me on my phone, and on my Galaxy S they look better than any other.

In all other respects we love this phone, too.

I don't want to pay so I can look like the facebook faggots when I don't even use facebook. I want a decent phone that I can still use the internet without the stupid ass BB keypad.

This is a good site that allows you to compare phones easily.

Don't listen to the 'grades' he gives cause he can be biased, just compare the specs.

Android 4.0
4.65 inch screen
No buttons on the face

Here it is comparedf to my wifes iPhone. (guess the movie!)

Notice how much screen there is since there are no physical buttons. Also notice there isnt any "widecreen" black bars since the size is made for HD.

Instead of just recommending phones, how about asking some more questions. From what I gathered, the OP wasn't going to do anything special with the phone, so a "lesser" phone may be a better option, especially on the wallet.

If you just want a phone that can surf the net, and do all the smartphone things without all the bells and whistles of the most expensive phones, all the carriers are offering phones that are free or extremely cheap. Just know that with Android, not all phones get the latest updates or support, so some of these phones can be more than 2 updates behind with no hope of catching up.

You'll get more bang for your buck getting a 150 dollar S2, 99 dollar iphone, or 79 dollar photon for Sprint than any of their free phones. The free phones are almost out of date as it is and will certainly be so in a year. The newer dual core phones will last MUCH longer. An S2 will probably be just fine spec wise for 3-4 years.

im curious to see how ICS will adapt to the older phones. Thats cuz i heard that Nexus was "made with ICS in mind". Im not sure what that means with the razr, s2, etc.

I'm using an alpha build of ICS right now, it's pretty comparable to the ICS I've tried on the Nexus (albeit less polished). I'm sure CyanogenMod will ensure ICS is optimized for any particualr phone one the final builds are released.

You all are recommending the best, but that comes at a premium price point. Sometimes, someone can't afford to get the best. Specs plus price can equal the best OPTION.

Again, if the person isn't going to use all the bells and whistles, then that should be an option. If the guy just wants a phone with more horsepower than he will ever use, then go ahead and throw away some money.

I just saw a guy yesterday that was still using a Treo. When I asked him about it, he said it worked, sent texts and pulled up email as well as went online, and that's all he needed it for.

So it doesn't matter what OS you have or how fast your processor is, if you want to do basic stuff with it, then there's no point in dishing out $199 when he can get something cheaper. Hell, the Nexus S is going for $99 and isn't that far removed from the Galaxy S II.

And even the Nexus S may be more phone than is needed.

MannyIsGod
01-03-2012, 03:25 PM
Oh you mean if he can't afford the phone he can't get it? Brilliant observation there. Thanks.

99 dollars for a Nexus S is really ridiculous when you consider I just got my Photon for 79 through Amazon. You can get the S2 for as low as 49 on sprint on there but its 149 if you already have a line. Still, 149 for the S2 would be MUCH better than 99 for the Nexus S.

Just no reason to get a 2 year contract for a Nexus S when you could get one on craigslist or ebay for 100 bucks.

I'm not an avid Ebay user, but use it occasionally. Is it safe to buy a phone through Ebay? My current phone sucks, but my brother just renewed the contract to get himself a new phone. I can't afford paying full price for a good phone, but on Ebay I found a few that were reasonably priced. Not sure if it's reliable/trustworthy.

My four year old LG died this week & I upgraded to the I Phone 4S…People tell me that it is the simplest smart phone to use…I am amazed at the Siri applications…Just talk into the phone & it translates comments for texting…This was unthinkable technology just a couple of decades ago. The I phone is still small enough to keep in your pocket but people my age my find that they need their reading glasses to read the small screen. Another positive for the I Phone is that so many people own them and there are so many Apple Snobs who are more than willing to teach you various functions of the device. I hear that it can also make phone calls.
