So last year I went on a cruise with my wife and daughter, mom, dad and sister. We had a great time. The whole time we were thinking of how cool it would have been if my brother and his family went with us. Fast forward to this year. My dad paid for ALL of us to go on a cruse. Me and my family, my brother and his family and my sister. So my sister in law took it upon herself to invite her best friend and their family. IMO that's bullshit. What's going to happen, is that she's gonna spend all her time with her friend and drag my brother to spend time with her and her friend and her friend's husband while my nieces spend time with their kids. Am I out of line thinking that she had no right seeing as how their trip was paid for by my father so that we could all spend time with each other as a family. Should I say something to her? Should I just let it go and have a good time on my own? Last year we all kept saying how much fun it would have been if my brother was there so my dad goes out and pays for it only to have his wife invite people we don't know/like. Isn't that kind of shitty?

Since your dad paid for them all to go, you don't have anything to say to your sister in law

Wait....so your SIL's best friend and family paid for nothing on this trip? How about a meal or a few drinks? I don't care who paid, it's bullshit. I'm sure your dad didn't say "Oh invite anyone you want".

If this is really an issue than you are leading a charmed life…Most people these days are struggling to pay rent...It must be nice to worry about who Daddy should invite on the upcoming cruise…:dramaquee

I don't think that's the deal. The SIL's best friend and family have to pay. But he's mad that his SIL invited another family that cause them (SIL and family) to not spend as much time with the OP's family.

I agree that it was sort of tacky/insensitive of the SIL, but if she checked with your dad and he doesn't mind, I'd let it go. It's supposed to be a family trip, so she shouldn't bring other people along, but it's done.

Gonna be some loose lips when the alcohol is flowing on this trip.

That is pretty damn rude. If somebody paid for me, it's just wrong to invite other people and ask him to pay for them too. Unless the dad OFFERS on his own, then that's some bullshit right there.

If the other family paid for their own trip then basically you gonna sound like a little a lovesick child crying that he don't have all of his family's attention.

damn those richers...

But seriously...it is inconsiderate and does infringe on the family time you had thought y'all were going to have. Or, at least that's how you saw it. Maybe your SIL saw it as something else inviting her friend and family.

I've invited people fishing and they've invited friends I don't know. I just say no. Since it's not your dime, it's not your call. I know you want to get everyone to do the family thing, but it is what it is. Enjoy yourself and let your sis deal with your pops.

It sounds like your sis doesn't like hanging out with the family (underlying reasons perhaps?) so she's opted to not spend that entire trip with people she doesn't want to be with. She's used it as a gift trip for herself.

Then again, many people are just inconsiderate and think of nothing but their immediate wants.

I was watching alvin and the chipmunks chipwrecked yesterday night and let me tell you, things did not go well when the munks decided to do a little kite flying while on deck.

maybe just maybe the SIL is doing her friends Husband...and wanted him to be there as a sick fetish...you may need to bring this to your brothers attention...just watch how she interacts around her friends man...it's easy to run off and get a quicky on a remote part of cruise ship...sorry man but shit's bout to hit the fan....:lol

Maybe if he drilled her in the ass in the forward galley, he could verbally control her for the rest of the trip.

Well, you're not really clear if your Dad paid for that other family. If he didn't, then you really have no one to say anything to. Let her "hang herself" based on her actions on the trip and you and your family have a great time on the cruise. If your Dad paid for them then do exactly the same. Don't let that bitch ruin what you want to continue this year. Is she really worth it????? I don't think so. Stay the course!!!

Just let it go and have a good time on your own. It's not like you will have to be around them all the time on that big ass boat. Plenty of stuff to do. On another note...the richer comments don't apply all that much to cruises. The are pretty damn cheap now and if you pay for a block of people you can get group rates that make it even cheaper.

Hope you have fun. I'm actually going on one at the end of this month. Which cruise line are you going on?

Lol goddamn some of you people are slow or lack reading comprehension or something. His father paid for his FAMILY to go on a cruise so they could spend family time together. He is not paying for the sil's friends to come.

I personally think it's selfish a bs of your sil to take advantage of a free family trip by inviting friends of hers to come along. I'm sure your dad is a little upset about it whether he is verbalizing it or not. She's taking this free family vacation and turning it into a couples vacation assuming she's going to have free babysitting the whole time. How come they weren't invited last year? Sounds like there is some preexisting discontent with this sil.

The more I think of it (not much) the more I am convinced it's the fault of the OP and family. They invited someone who likely has known tendencies to do stupid shit.

Note: Don't invite stupid inlaws. If that means you don't invite family because they value strangers over family, so be it.

I am sure the sister-in-law simply did not want to spend an entire vacation with your family, so she invited along some people with whom she likes to spend time. It also seems pretty clear that mostly you are angry because you assume your brother will do what she wants instead of spending time with you all.

That's the one I'm going on. Last week of January. I've been on that same itinerary before so I'm only going to get off in Grand Cayman. Place is just beautiful.

It's one big ass ship. I went on the Conquest last time and they are saying this one is quite a bit bigger...which is hard for me to wrap my brain around because the Conquest was big too. I'll give you the skinny on the best places to go on the ship when I get back.

common decency is considered string now?

Thinking spending money buys you control of that person is decency?

If you confront her with it, you risk driving a wedge between you and your brother. Just convey to your brother that you want to be able to spend some time together, if that's what you want, without getting into this drama.

The Great Fantastic

If you don't want to spend that much time with the people who went out of their way to pay for your cruise, then you don't go on the cruise. If you want to spend time with friends on a cruise, then save up money and pay for your own damn cruise.

My advice to the OP, just let it go. It is what it is. Make sure your pops knows how much you appreciate it. Don't let any negative spin or passive aggressiveness take over. Enjoy it. You being upset and causing a rift will only make the trip worse for everyone involved, including your father. It seems that's the one who you feel deserves the respect.

One last note, nobody ever invite Ploto anywhere. She will think you are imprisoning her by expecting her to spend time with you.
