Who yall got? I'm siding with Nola on this one. The Saints are undefeated at home and have outscored their opponents by 186 pts. Lions are too one-dimensional and Gregg Williams will expose that.

I'll be modest. Saints win 42-31, but I could easily see the Saints pour it on with two late touchdowns to make it 56-31. Throw in an onside kick and it could be 63.

I'm with Blake here...I really wanna call the upset but just can't pull the trigger.
Although the Lion D is horrid, the Saints D is shit too. In their game last month the Lions were competitive despite absolutely stupid mistakes. IIRC they had like 150-200 yards of penalties that game--most coming at crucial points and comprised of unsportsmanlike conduct bs. No way they come close to that again. They also shouldnt be awestruck by the Superdome crowd b/c they just played there.
Their offense is peaking at the right time and Stafford has played exceptional as of late.
That being said, it's not smart to pick against the Saints at home...but I do like the Lions to cover (+11)

01-05-2012, 08:16 PM
The only thing about that last Saints-Lions matchup was the Saints were coming off a big Monday Night win against Giants and played somewhat on short rest. Plus, their offense is playing even better now. Big reason is Chris Ivory is getting carries instead of Ingram and the running game has taken off. The Lions have an explosive offense, but I still think the Saints cover.

It would be cool seeing Eli return home for the NFC Title Game. The Saints could use a good warm up game before the Super Bowl. Brees has always enjoyed his 7-on-7 scrimmages against the Giants defense.

Realistically, the Saints should win this game and comfortably.
However, a few things on this game. The Lions have a chance to play better defensively because in the first meeting they did not have Suh or safety Louis Delmas. Both of those guys plus Laurence Jackson is back at DE and perhaps they can compete better on defense.
If the Lions have any chance to win, they have to do 3 things:
(1) Win the turnover battle, and by multiple turnovers. Lions have to cause 2-3 turnovers and not turnover the ball themselves because without turnovers, the Saints are going to put up a lot of points on the Lions defense;
(2) Get heavy pressure on Brees, hopefully with sacks, but with at least some hurries and hits on him; and
(3) Control time of possession. This goes hand in hand with the first two things because causing turnovers will limit New Orleans possessions and bringing pressure on Brees would hopefully cause some short possessions for the Saints. Also in order to control possession, the Lions need to have some semblance of a running game. Throwing the ball 90% of the time leads to 3 and outs and turnovers. The Lions really don't have much of a running game, but they need one for this game, or at the very least utilize tight ends Pettigrew and Scheffler in place of a running game.
I foresee Jimmy Graham having a huge day for the Saints.

The key to this game will be the running game. The Saints have been monsters on the ground the last few weeks and overall are 6th in the league. That kind of balance makes life a whole lot easier. Another key matchup will be the Lions DTs against the Saints interior o-lineman which may be the best in the league.
Also 3rd down defense is key. The Saints 3rd down and red zone defense has been strong.

On the 4th and inches play did the Stat Padder fumble on the way down?
Sure looks like he had not hit the ground when Lion Fairley tore it loose.
NBC too busy sucking Brees ass to comment on it. After showing the one and only angle that has Fairley ripping it loose, the next two replays just show Brees skying for the 1st down. Nice jump by Brees.

I could see them reversing the touchdown. But one thing to consider is that it's not necessarily when Stafford touched the pylon if the nose of the ball was over the goal line before hitting the pylon. Otherwise, I thought it should have been reversed. I'll take it though.
