It works pretty damn well once you get everything set up the way you like it. It definitely works better on Mac OSX, but if you have a decent Windows box with a good amount of RAM it works great. I just leave it open all the time since it also supplies my Apple TV with content.

tbh Vista will pop up a window by default anytime any program tries to start, or if the program tries to access any information outside of its folder. Vista's User Account Control by default is incredibly restrictive. It worked fine after you monkey around with it a bit, but that can be said of any program, iTunes included.

Alright, ringtone solution, off the top of my head. Take any song you like. Highlight it, right click and select "Create AAC Version". Go to the copy and figure out which 40 seconds you want to use and note the start and stop times. Right click on the copy and select "Get Info". Go to "Options" and click and edit the start and stop times to the times you noted on the sample you want and click ok. Play the copy to make sure it only plays the clip you want, then click and drag the music clip out of iTunes and onto your desktop. Right click on the file and click "Rename". Change the file extension to "m4r". Delete the song copy in iTunes. Drag and drop the new m4r file back into iTunes and it will automatically be added to the "Tones" playlist. Sync your phone and there you go, a new ringtone.

That took me MUCH, MUCH longer to type than it does to actually do it. I created a text tone of Arnold in Predator yelling, "Get to the choppa!!!!" by downloading the clip off of YouTube and doing this as well as other songs and clips. It's extremely easy.

I have had the same music folder since about 98 on various computers, and all I had to do was make it the default media folder in the iTunes preferences. Everything I download from iTunes or other sources has always been in that folder, where it has always been. iTunes has never run a check to see if I am the owner of anything, and 95% of my content is from sources other than iTunes, including m4v's that have been converted from MKVs. The only issue I ever had with iTunes is forgetting to uncheck the "Keep iTunes Media Folder organized" - it threw all the soundtracks and compilations into various folders, but that was my own fault and easily fixed. I think you have a serious user error problem tbh.

Never had that problem. Have my iPod attached to 5 computers and my phone attached to 2. All my songs can be shared and downloaded between the 2 computers I have and my phone. Anything I download off of iTunes now appears on my phone automatically.

My phone is connected to 2 different computers. It's not that hard. And 1 folder thing is divided into multiple folders when you click on it. It's about organization. I have mine set up with an iPhone and an iPod touch my daughter has, and we also used the same computer for my ex's iPhone and iPod when she lived here, as well as a roomate who had an iPhone that moved out last year. It's not difficult at all - we just have separate playlists for each device, and further playlists under that if they are needed. My one Music folder has 6,873 subfolders for each artist/album but it is all in one place on the drive for organization and easy backup.

That's Steve Wozniak you see in the photo, on his Segway with his iPhone 4S, when he got it last fall. Does he love it? Oh yes, he does. But Wozniak says he also wishes it would do "all the things my Android does, I really do."

Ouch. That hurts, coming from the co-founder of Apple, who is much beloved by those in the Apple kingdom, as well as those outside of it. Wozniak says his main phone is the iPhone and that he loves "the beauty of it" as well as its simplicity, compared to Android. But, he says, Android phones are not that much harder to deal with, and "if you're willing to do the work to understand it a little bit, well I hate to say it, but there’s more available in some ways."

He made the remarks to Dan Lyons of the Daily Beast, who noted the upset that resulted when Wozniak was photographed at Google with a pre-release version of the new Galaxy Nexus. Steve Jobs hated Android, basically calling it a ripoff of Apple, which makes Woz's words all the much harder to accept for Apple acolytes.

No one should be troubled by this, Lyons writes; Wozniak and Andy Rubin, the Google exec in charge of Android, are pals from way back: Rubin worked at Apple, then went on to co-found Danger, which made the popular Sidekick phone, and Wozniak was on the board of directors of Danger.

Wozniak thinks that voice commands do better on Android than the iPhone, and he told Lyons that Siri on the iPhone 4S is not as good as when it was a stand-alone app for the previous iPhone:

I used to ask Siri, ‘What are the five biggest lakes in California?’ and it would come back with the answer. Now it just misses. It gives me real estate listings. I used to ask, ‘What are the prime numbers greater than 87?’ and it would answer. Now instead of getting prime numbers, I get listings for prime rib, or prime real estate,” Woz says.

Worse, a lot of the time Siri says it can’t make a connection to the back-end servers that power the system. “With the iPhone 4 I could press a button and call my wife. Now on the 4S I can only do that when Siri can connect over the Internet. But many times it can’t connect. I’ve never had Android come back and say, ‘I can’t connect over the Internet.’ ”

Heresy? No, it's Wozniak's engineering analysis, detached and unbiased. He says the iPhone is a great choice for many people, including those "who are just scared of computers altogether and don’t want to use them. The iPhone is the least frightening thing. For that kind of person who is scared of complexity, well, here’s a phone that is simple to use and does what you need it to do,” he told Lyons.

I agree. I think the 4.3 on my Galaxy S2 is pretty ideal. Anything larger and I won't be able to swipe down the notification bar easily with one hand while holding it.

The Nexus doesn't have buttons so it's not significantly bigger then, say the S2. 4.65 with buttons would be getting to the big side.
