C David Robinson
PF Timmy D
SF Bruce Bowen
SG Manu Ginobili
PG Tony Parker
Imagine a lineup like this with all the players in their primes. The word "unstoppable" would be an understatement for this lineup.
I'm allowed to dream, aren't I? Oh how I miss the days of having the Admiral and Bruce...

Ughhhhhh what? He helped us in 03 on Shaq etc., got 13 and 17 in his last damn game! Come on now man PRIME ROBINSON on that team is a beast! Old one was a beast later on on D and boards etc., so what is the hate for? I would take PRIME D ROB over ANY C now in the league, yes I SAID IT.

Hell, I would take Robinson now. He looks fit enough to block a few shots. The Admiral in his prime was devastating.
The OP lineup would stand up to any 5.

And the reserve should be
Artis Gilmore
Terry Cummings, Malik Rose
Sean Elliott
George Gervin, Michael Finley
Avery Johnson
Superman for sure. But the real one.
Batman? I don't think he'd be any good without his black suit and utility belt.
The Silver Surfer would never have to dribble, since his feet don't really touch the floor. He's in.
That stretchy guy from the Fantastic Four, and the rock guy too.
I'd put Wonder Woman on the team, just to make R.J. tell the truth with her invisible rope.
The Flash, for sure. But not Spiderman, 'cuz they'd have to keep cleaning off the Jumbotron.
And then, if you want to win Championships - Timmy.
Wait... how about "Imagine no salary cap for us, but a hard cap for everyone else"? That'd be fun.
Or we could go the other way, and imagine a basketball league with only talk show hosts. I'll take that Montell Williams guy. And Ellen is always shooting FT's. Queen Latifah yes, but not Rosie or Oprah (different kind of fat).
Gee, Wally... this fantasy basketball stuff sure is fun.

But your bench is as follows (and they're the same as when they left the Spurs):
Nick Van Exel
Blake Ahearn
James White!
Marcus Williams
Bobby Simmons
Ime Udoka
Ike Diogu
Pops Mensah Bonsu
Ian Mahinmi (injured)

Serious question: When was Bruce Bowen's prime?
It could be 2003 for his work on Kobe (on both ends) but then again his overall impact throughout that playoff run wasn't his least of the three championships.
I'd say it was 2005 since he was a beast in each round. Then again, in 2007 he might have had his two most impressive defensive series -- against the Suns and against the Cavs. Bowen was older in 2007 than Duncan is now so that would have been a pretty late prime ... but there's a good case there.

I think it's hard to pick one year and say that was a player's prime. Anywhere between 2003-2005 would be my pick. Although he was still great through 2007.

It makes you wonder...can a defensive specialist have a late and/or extended prime like that? With a scoring big next to Duncan, we could see Duncan for another 3-4 years like he said in his current role of defense plus top-of-the-key jumpshots.

I think it was 2007. He was fantastic against Nash and then stopped James. Remember James was on fire against the Pistons and Bruce did a great job on him.

I would have to agree that Bowens best defensive year was 2007, with 2005 being a VERY close second.
Without Bowen playing the way he did against Nash in the second round, I seriously wonder if we still could have beaten the Suns.

A lot of that discussion and contemplation revolves around match-ups. Just because he was placed in a position to make a bigger impact in 07 doesn't mean that he was more capable at that time. It just meant that he might have drawn relatively easier and less critical assignments in previous years when compared to the incredibly difficult ones he mastered in 07.
