That's good. I think it is their only scheduled one for January, and it's good that they got one in to get CoJo and Thomas some instruction and plays.

JMcDonald_SAEN Huge breaking news: The Spurs were actually able to schedule and conduct a practice this morning. First since start of season.

Nash, Hill undetermined for Sunday’s game
Phoenix starters Steve Nash and Grant Hill sat out the back end of a back-to-back Friday night in the Suns’ loss against New Jersey. Their status for Sunday night’s game against the Spurs at the AT&T Center is unknown.

Hill will probably pout and sit out, since he can't break Manu's arm this time.

This practice is very important for Cory Joseph. I think Pop is almost done with the Neal at PG experiment. Cory Joseph should get a shot soon. While I think Joseph isn't ready to have an impact, he can be a player who won't hurt the team in the Vaughn mold. If Joseph fails, his year as a Spurs is done, he will go back to Austin and Spurs will sign a vet PG like Ish Smith.

Bruno, am I mistaken in thinking there will be a 13 man roster in a month or so? Haven't we all been clamoring for a big instead of PG for that last spot?

There is still a 13 man active roster but it doesn't matter. What is important is that the maximum roster size is 15 and Spurs have a spot left with 14 players currently under contract.

Spurs have still added a bigman with Malcolm Thomas.

Because of the short season, the NBA is already allowing 13 active players and the usual 15 man roster. The Diogu/Thomas spot is #14. Don't look for another roster spot to be filled, as close to the tax as the Spurs are.

Ah ok. 13 active players. Glad for clearing this up. I misworded something in an earlier post then.

Spurs are over the tax. They might not be fine with adding a player for the full season because it will cost them twice more. They can however add a PG for the duration of TJ's injury.

Thanks for the clarification on that too Bruno. I did not realize it otherwise.

When TD goes off the books next year we will be in the hunt for a MAJOR splash.

Why do you people think Tim isn't coming back or that the Spurs wouldn't welcome him with open arms?

Free agents don't come here, at least the "big splash" type.

Tim's contract is up after this season. The team can (and will) sign him back for much less than he's making now.

I agree with your first point. Aging vets and role players sign here, not stars. The spurs have to draft well to get those.

In a way your right, Spurs will be at around $50 million with 9 players...so I guess depending on the salary cap, Spurs should have around 8 million in salary cap room, if they don't amnesty RJ. I don't know too much on the bird rights if we will have any on Duncan with new CBA. Personally if Duncan feels like the Spurs are another big man away from still competing, then I think he will end up taking a salary cut around the $5 million mark, if Spurs can go after a big man. Would be nice if we can get Hibbert or Oden, but unless we amnesty RJ then they will be a little out of our range.

Remember to0 that Duncan at 36 (assuming he plays beyond this year) may have contractually limitations due to his age.

The Spurs will probaly try to do a Drob type deal for a couple of years at $10MM per.

I wish Thomas had been able to practice to show Pop what he can do. He'll probably be relegated to the end of the bench now and be gone in less than ten days time.
